Hi,

New to forum and to Sunset Trail RVs. Previously owned two Jaycos - Pop-up and than our current hybrid TT.

Loved the Jayco quality but not the weight. I have a 2011 F150 SuperCrew Ecoboost with 3.55's. Plan on towing cross country to Idaho/West Yellowstone for 2 weeks.

Almost pulled trigger on a couple 35 foot Jayco TTs, but mymechanicsaid "no way" on the weight. Finally did some deep research and with my family onboard and "stuff" we're realistically cant pull more than the 300BH.

Looked at the 300BH. Nothing on the market out there even comes close. 5600lbs dry, unit we looked at was 6200 on the sticker.

Love the unit, but disappointed in the small bath. guess you gotta cut corners somewhere to drop weight

Never heard of Sunset Trail before today. Anyone have comments on Sunset Trail or specifically this unit?

Also, anyone towing a 31BH with a 1/2 ton out there? Does the ultra lights have the same 12 year warranty on the roof. CampingWorld told me "yes", but not finding anything written on it.

Again, new to forum and excited about this unit.

I was also looking at the 300BH for my F150. I ended up pulling the triger on a 28BH instead. alittle lighter and our kids are older so they didnt need a seprate bedroom. We are also new to the Sunset trail line, but I am very impressed with the line so far. alot of really nice features in a light weight package. The ST290BQ and 29SS were also on our list. Good luck with your shopping and i hope you find the perfect trailer for you

I have a 32BH that I pull with a F150 Ecoboost 4x4 w/ 3.73 gears and tow pkg. I have no problem what so ever going through the Rocky Mountains with this set up. I go the same speed on flats as I do up the mountains, nothing slows this thing down. As for weights, I may be close on the payload of the truck but I never had any issues with stability and control. You may have to watch the weights on your trailer thought.Manufacturers tend toundersize axles and tires. Pay attention to both those; After I purchased mine in 2011 I had Crossroads upgrade both axles and all 4 tires & wheelsbecause in my opinion they were undersized. Crossroads used to have the best coustomer service regarding warranty, now they are no different than the rest. So look for a great dealer and a trailer that suits your needs best. Good luck in your purchase.

I just got a 2013 31BH,, I'm towing it with a half ton Gmc, my truck has a payload of 1500lbs and has the tow package, I know I'm probably over the payload rating of the truck, I put Firestone air bags in the back and switched out the "P" rated tires and put on load range "E" which made a huge difference with stability. The trailer was weighed at the dealer before it left and it came in at 6670 empty. We tend to camp pretty light so even with 1000 lbs of gear on board we should be right around 8000lbs.

Mike

Mike, did they happen to give you the tongue weight? That was my problem. Close on gvw, but there is not much room left for tongue weight after passengers, wood, and other junk.
Ours was listed at 700 dry, but i think it is closer to 900 loaded. Ours was stickered at 5850, and loading VERY light, it weighed in at 6670.

No they didnt give me a tongue weight, and I was to excited about getting it home and forgot to ask. Im thinking its right at the 1000 pound mark, I might take to the scale this summer to see the numbers, I'm using 1200lbs weight distribution hitch. If I could go back and do it again I would have bought a 2500 and wouldnt have to worry about it again.

I have the 32BH and love it. I had some small repairs that needed to be taken care of, but CR took good care of me and I ambeyond happy. I have only used our new camper twice, but have many new trips planned in the next few weeks. Camping season is almost here!

You can add at least 1000-1500 lbs to that 6200 lbs to figure out what you will be towing as the average people add that much weight to a TT. Some more, some less. Tongue weight should be 13-15% of the loaded weight. 7200 x .13%= 936 lbs tongue wright. 7700 lbs x.15= 1155 lbs tongue weight. You get the idea.

Remember on your truck you should go weigh it fully loaded with all passengers, pets, cargo and a full tank of fuel. Take the weight you obtained and subtract it from your trucks gvwr to get your available payload. The loaded tongue weight should be less than your available payload. Not knowing exactly how much cargo you will add to your TT you are safer using the TT gvwr to do your calculations. Hope this helps you.Oh and I towed my TT with a loaded weight of 7000 lbs with an armada with very poor results. I now have an F250 PSD to tow with.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I know now that the saleperson at the dealership isnt going to be riding next to me going through the Rockies at 3:00 a.m., so we're most definately not going bigger than the 300BH.

I am strongly leaning towards swapping out my friction bar hitch for a Propride P3 or Arrow. Anyone comment on upgarding my hitch?

The Propride comes highly recommended by several other members of another forum I belong to. From the videos I have seen, it does an amazing job and eliminating sway as the tow vehicle is the only thing that can pivot the hitch. Trailer force can not sway. That being said. It is too expensive for my pockets and hookup can be a pain in the "stinger" as they call it.

I would checkout the Reese Straightline (dual cam) system. I used one on a 29 foot TT and the results were excelient. Much cheaper too.
