Dealing with concertone (Genesis 2.0)
Well, I have exchanged several emails with concertone about my inoperative Genesis 2.0. I tried several times to get them to give me a ballpark figure on what it might cost to repair if all they had to do was replace the CD/DVD unit, but the only thing they would reply with was "We are unable to provide an estimate prior to testing the unit at our facility.". What they want me to do is return the unit, have them test it, and then tell me what it will cost. I told them that if I was going to have to pay a couple of hundred bucks it wouldn't be worth it to me, which is why I was trying to get a ball park figure before I got an official estimate, but they wouldn't accomodate. A new one is $399, a refurbished one is $299. None on eBay right now, other than one that looks pretty beat up. So my options are (1) return the unit for an estimate and hope it is somewhat less than $200, (2) buy a new one (3) replace it with the Jensen I am looking at which will require cutting a different size hole to mount. I don't think we have used that DVD player more than once, and maybe played a CD once or twice. Still not sure what I am going to do. Right now the thing is sitting on my kitchen table.

I did see that one... zooming in on the photo it looks pretty scratched up though. Still an option I suppose.

Might be more cost effective to buy new in the long run. IMHO

It's shows they have 27 of them, just ask them nicely to find you a mint one.

How did this turn out for you? Our Genesis 2.0 no longer works after pulling the camper out of storage for the winter and of course it's one week out of warranty.

If I were you I would call CR and tell them you just took it out of storage one week after warranty expired and tell them you want a new unit. I would think you should NOT even have to make a fuss, they should replace the unit NO QUESTIONS ASKED.

I had no luck dealing with CR or Concertone. CR said I needed to go through the dealer. Dealer said I needed to go through Concertone. Concertone would not even try to give me an estimate on repair without sending the unit back, even though I specifically asked what it would cost just to replace the CD/DVD drive. I ended up buying the one from Harley and installing it. If it goes bad later, I'll try a different brand. I just didn't want to deal with the mod to the mounting opening.

Thanks dlwilliams for the update and sleepyt for the suggestion to call CR. I spoke with Terry at CR and he said they'd cover it and to call our dealer. The dealer will do a pre-auth and I'll drop the unit off today.

I have a 2 way radio repair business. I also absolutely refuse to give an estimate without seeing it. The first time you get raked over the coals (on the phone and on the internet) because you told a customer it would probably cost $X and it cost more because of other unknown problems you will not give an estimate again either. There are just too many variables on electronics to guess at a cost. However if a a customer wants to ship in a radio I will give an estimate, if he does not want to repair it the estimate charge is $37.50. If it is repaired that is included in the estimate.
