Do you use Tire Guards over your tires when RV is not in use?

Hi, I am looking for input/conversation on the pro's and con's (if there are any) of using those vinyl tire covers/guards over my RV tires when the camper is sitting/parked, especially for extended periods of time? Does it help prevent dry rot? Or does it only build up more moisture to promote tire deterioration? Thanks in advance. Looking forward to hearing from you...

Tires do not rot from exposure to moisture, they rot from Ozone and sunlight. yes, use your covers.

We use them when parked at home and when parked in Florida. Yes, it's the sun that does the most damage.

Yep use them all the time at home. I put them on if I am going to be parked for more than just overnight. I have found the duel cover is better than the ones that cover only one tire.

If you have owned your RV for any period of time with the tires in direct sunlight and if your spare tire is mounted under the camper all you need to do is look at your spare as opposed to the other tires to know that the covers work....

George
I would like to know why you like the dual covers as opposed to the singles.????

Didn't use them on my first trailer when in storage. Very quickly noticed cracks in the sidewalls. Have been using covers on every trailer since (5) and no cracks in the sidewalls.

I use them on mine all the time, even if only overnight. It takes about 5 minutes to install them. The sun will eat away at the tires and make them rot.

Be careful putting the slides in and out with the tire guards on, however.

Do you have to get two singles for the wide stance axles or do they make them for it? Also, does anyone use products like Armor All or Black Tire on their trailer tires?

I use Armor All and do not see any deterioration of the tires. Only 1 side of the Rv is exposed to the sun.

I bought singles, but I believe they make the double for them. Also, apparently there are some that are easy to blow away in the wind. But the ones I bought have a bungee cord that you connect behind the wheel so they can't blow off.

Absolutely use them. We didn't on our 1st camper and the tires dried out and cracked in the 3rd or 4th year.
