Door holder

The rivets have popped out of the door holder on my 2012 Crossroads Sunset Trail 31BH. Does anyone have a good fix for this? Thanks

Are you talking about the gas strut that holds the door?

It has to either be the gas strut ( if that was used then) or the plastic thing that hooks onto the door to keep it against the trailer. But those were screwed on ,I think. I had the strut and took it off and added the plastic thing so the door would be wide open.

It's the metal piece that's mounted on the side of the RV and hooks into the door to hold it open. I can't find a good way to fix the rivets to hold the door open. I would rather not use rivets again. Thought about cutting a metal plate slightly larger than the holder and affixing the plate to the side of the RV and then screwing the holder to the plate. Not sure it would work though.

You can go to walmart and get some double sided tape i am get ready to take off the gas strut and install one i can have the door wide open and am going to try the double sided tape and see how that works before anything else we will see.

I mounted mine where there was 'meat' behind the bracket and simply put some stainless screws in. Yours must be rivoted to the lower fascia or if it is an alum sided trailer, into the siding. See if there is a stud or floor behind the rivot hole.

Replacement

I replaced mine with a magnetic door stop. $6 on Amazon. I don't have to hook and unhook it. Also, unlike the hooking type, if someone pulls too hard, it doesn't matter, it just detaches like magic. I've done this on my last 3 RVs and they have held up well and keep the door open.

That's a great idea! I may have to pilfer it.

It was my wife's idea. She got tired of having to go out in the dark to unhook the door. Also a friend almost pulled it right out of the RV wall, thought the door was stuck.

The only downfall is they are not made for exterior, so they rust unless you coat them with a clear sealant. It doesn't rust badly, so I just deal with it. It isn't top quality finish for $6, but they last a couple seasons before getting unsightly.

A couple screws and some caulking and Bob's your uncle, done in about 10 minutes. They work well indoors too.
