Electrical short

On the last outting with our 2016 z-1 272bh
I could not get water heater to light on propane.
Tank level lights were also out. I found a 15amp
fuse blown.I went to replace it and it popped as soon as it hit the terminals. Did this twice and knew I had a direct short somewhere.Trip continued as planned but I did not even know where to start looking for a short so I decided to enjoy the trip and look at it later.I do have test light and volt meter so a few days after the trip I decided to try and find the short. Since I had no idea where to start I decided to start at the control panel where the tank level lights were not working. I pulled he panel off the wall and could not believe what I found. There were wire plugged into the panel but hanging off the bundle of wires was 2 wires with the slip fittings on the end. Every prong on this panel had a wire and these 2 seemed like extras to maybe a little different panel not sure. These 2 slip on connections were arced together causing a short. I guess they were hanging there all a long and finally touched. I cut off the ends and capped the wires low and behold the fuse went in and did not blow. For once l got a lucky break.
The dealer could not explain it when I contacted them about the extra wires on the 12volt system either but all is well. Maybe this will help someone else with a Z-1 down the road.A little bit of effort was really worth it this time.

Glad you discovered it and glad the fuses did what they were supposed to. Earlier this year my main slide stopped working and I found what I thought was a bad slide switch; but after searching I found a bad connection wire behind the control panel. Anyhow, glad you got it straightened out.
