Eternabond question
I have some places on our Seville roof that need a little TLC. I have the Eternabond 4" tape but have a question on cleaning off the surface. Do I need to buy the Eternabond cleaner and surface prep or can I use something else alcohol, mineral spirits (probably not the best idea), or ?
I'm sealing the front and rear cap to the roof and around anywhere else that looks like it needs it. I do have a couple of slides that need some care on the outside edges as it looks like the guys at the factory just gave them a quick fix.
Advice always appreciated.

I've never used the Eternabond cleaner or the prep. I have always used the alcohol to clean it. The areas I have done have been pretty clean to start as the unit is always stored inside. I don't know if it would make any difference on just how much crap and crude (if any) there is on the area you want to take care of.
I would never advise anybody on how to do it on their rig--just stating how I did it.

Lloyd, thanks for the advice. I'll probably just stick to the alcohol method as it seems to be a cost effective way to do this. Once the weather warms up (we're in Florida for the winter, January has been cold for Florida).

Al, I also scrubbed the area good with soap and water and let it dry good before using the rubbing alcohol. That way it was pretty clean to start with and I didn't feel the need to saturate it to heavily with the alcohol. I think that can be a little rough on the roof membrane if I guy isn't a little careful.
Have you got the roller?

I used the Eternabond cleaner which is actually acetone. Like Lloyd said, use something you think will work.
SDS list for Eternabond cleaner spray
67-64-1 ACETONE 50-100%
124-38-9 CARBON DIOXIDE 2.5-10%
142-82-5 HEPTANE 2.5-10%
589-34-4 3-METHYLHEXANE 2.5-10%
108-87-2 METHYLCYCLOHEXANE 2.5-10%
110-82-7 CYCLOHEXANE </=1.0%

I used soap/water, alcohol, acetone, and even lacquer thinner (very sparingly) in that order to remove all of the gunk and dirt.

When I sealed areas of the roof w/eternabond I cleaned the areas w/mild soap and water then used denatured alcohol on the surface before applying the eternabond tape.

Clean with mildsoap and water allow to dry then I use acetone just before i apply the Etherbond tape.
Then i use a small wooden roller such as this
https://www.amazon.com/Second-Skin-W...58012986&psc=1
to force out all the air bubbles and press the tape so it bonds with the roof.

Did any of you seal the edges of the Eternabond with self leveling sealant?

Yes, on the leading edge of the tape only.
