Extended 3 year warranty - to buy or not

Hello again!

Question: Looking at 2014 Crossroad 33BH longhorn, and trying to decide is it worth buying the 3 year extended warranty?

-obviously would have piece of mind with it, but is it worth the cost?

Not sure if I cna post the price here or not. Other post on camper price was edited.

Unless you your live near your dealer form my experience it not worth the extra cost and hassle dealing with the factory warranty and have heard that the extended warranty can be trouble sum also.

In my opinion the extended warranty is worth it. You do not have to go to your dealer for the warranty work. Most Rv dealers and repair shops can be used with the extended warranty, if fact, some on this forum have used private repair shops for factory warranty repairs. They contacted Crossroads for a list of these repair shops.
Check out the good and bad of each warranty. One thing I can tell you, after your factory warranty runs out, NO warranty that I know of. covers water damage.

Every case is different and here’s my story.

I reluctantly purchased a 4 year extended warranty when I bought my first 5th wheel camper, a used 2010 Crossroads Kingston. My concern was the 3 slide outs which I thought would be expensive if I ever had a problem.Well, no problem with the slide outs. But, the extended warranty has paid for the replacement of one of the air conditioners (bedroom) and a complete new landing gear system. Total cost would have been well over $2000.The extended warranty has more than paid for itself and I have almost 3 years left on it.

I agree with buying the extended warranty. I needed to use it this past weekend. When we pulled into our camp site and extended the left side slide, I found a tear in floor linoleum.

I reported it to my dealer/service manager yesterday. I still have 10 months left on my warranty and Cross Roads is going to fix the problem and repair the linoleum. Turns out the slide corner floor caught the flooring material and snagged it. Not sure wand the root cause is for the slide to do this, but the extended warranty just paid for itself.

Warranty is worth it if the price point is right. For us, it was around $1500 for the plan with no tire coverage. Not used it yet, but still have a couple years and still like the peace of mind.

I spent many years in the insurance business. Regardless of type of insurance, the question is not whether or not you can afford it. The question is whether you can afford NOT to have it if peril strikes. In other words, can you afford to be self-insured?

Great point, but its good for folks to the difference here is these warranty companies are not regulated in any way by the state as in the case of insurance. Many of them go belly op and people are out their money.

In looking at these warranty companies, look at reputation and check the forums. Plus, shop around. Heard good things about Good Sam and we have Xtra Ride.

Very good point, Mark! In the insurance biz it's called ratings. Absent ratings, you have to go by reputation, time in business, and financial strength.

When I purchased my Cruiser at the Hershey Rv show, they paid $1000 of the $2200 cost for a 7 year warranty. (Good Sam warranty)

Thanks for asking this question. We were not going to go with an extended warranty but seeing these responses, we are rethinking our choice.

We are picking up a 2016 Rezerve 5th wheel tomorrow. Does the extended warranty need to be purchased at the time of purchase, or does it just need to be made prior to the factory warranty running out?

Goodsam was 1/3 the cost of EasyCare and covered more. Ask to see the contract and read all the exclusions. As an example EasyCare could cover a $10 item that failed and that $10 item allowed $2000 in damage. They would only cover the $10 item. The exclusions in the contract covered almost everything that could go wrong normally. I believe my refrigerator, a/c and other appliances have 2 or 3 year warranties anyway.
