I'm picking up my new rushmore tomorrow. What are your opinions on the extended warranty? Are they worth it? I can get a 5 year for 1800 bucks. Any input would be helpful

JMHO, but most extended warranties have more "excluded" items then "included" items. Also, most typical units have a 2 year warranty on appliances from the individual manufacturers. All my warranty claims have occured within the first year and rarely in the second year.

Ext. warranty may seem like a waste to some but after much consideration we decided on it and now have the feeling that if a fridge or what ever does quit at least we we have a warranty and feel easier in our own minds that something over and above the manufacturers warranty will be covered. A fridge or hot water tank and many other parts of your unit can cost thousands and now you have a legal stand. It may be hard to overcome but it is a start. Just our thoughts::

We fulltime in our Rushmore. We bought one. Even though its brand spanking new. Thats just my opinion. If your only using it a couple a year maybe not.

IMHO If I were going to buy an extended warranty I would wait until the end of the original warranty was ready to expire. As said by MWEBBER78 most if not all appliances are covered for the first two years. Congrats on the Rushmore, bset of luck with it.

From what I have seen lately as I have been looking around for an extended warranty is that the coverage begins as soon as you buy it so the 5 year extended warranty (service contract) I don't see any benefit untilthe last 3 years. That being said, once your original warranty ends, it will cost more to buy the same coverage than if bought when you are still under the manufactures (CrossRoads) warranty.At least that is what I have found. We ultimately decided to keep the money we would have spent on the extended warranty and put that in a separate account to use for future repairs, etc.

I purchased an extended warranty with my new trailer. I see it as an insurance policy for catastrophic failures (like a power awning dying).



They are not a "get out jail free" card! Make sure you read the fine print in the warranty manual so you can perform necessary maintenance required by the warranty company.

Hello, I recently purchased a nice 2012 Sunset Trail and the first day out the rear stabilizers seized. It was a very bouncy trip for 3 weeks and the manual crank controls would not work due to the motor seizing. For 3 weeks every time I used something power, I was blowing fuses so stock up before you leave. Also there is a second fuse box hidden behind the pull out drawer on the floor which controls half of the power units. The dealership warned me about the hazards of everything being power and the problems they have had with other new units including the slide. Once the motor blows if the slide is extended it is almost impossible to push it back in. Lots of problems with this unit from the get-go so I recommend the extended warranty even though it is very costly and the dealership cashes in on your original 2 year warranty at time of purchase. I always believed that if you purchase an extended warranty it should start after the factory warranty ends but no so with Crossroad products. The way everything is falling apart with my new unit I recommend this for peace of mind.

Myself, I guess I'm with Utahgoldrup. If you have to spend $1200 --$2400 for an extended warranty, you have pretty well spent the price of most of your major appliances. Percentages of those things happening are pretty small. Not that they don't happen, they do, but not as often as some are led to believe. If they weren't a big money maker, you wouldn't see so many policies being offered.

I priced the extended coverage plan from Good Sam. It was $560/yr with a $200 deductible. The coverage looks fairly complete as far as mechanical things BUT it doesn't cover roof, frame, or structure. Still mullng it over. I have until July...

The roof should be covered for 12 years, but I sure of that.

We purchased the ext. warranty and it does not kick in until the original warranty is over so it gives us 7 years total. Check it out.

We bought one for piece of mind and so far we have had a couple things break and so far it hasn't covered any thing, but if the fridge or AC goes out it will probably pay for itself. I feel like its one of those things you buy the warrant and never use it and its a waste of money or if you don't get it things break and your kicking yourself for not buying it.

If you purchased it new the rear stabilizer motor should have been covered, under the two year warranty.

The rear stabilizer has been an issue with mine as well. Right now it appears that the switch is dead. So I understand what a pain in the rear it is when it goes out. To extend the rear stabilizer when it dies you have to remove the motor to engage the crank.

We purchased basic CW warranty. Covers most things with $50 deductible and we can go to any CW, which is good if you are on the road. Ours was about $1300, so we figured if something major craps out it will be worth it.

I am also NOT an ext warranty guy...but this seemed worth the investment.

The roof MATERIAL is covered for for 12 years and is pro rated. It is actually inexpensive stuff.

The money involved in replacing a roof is the labor, which will not be covered in most cases.



I have never bought an extended warranty on anything and probably the money I would havespent would buy a new rv.



That being said, I can pay for any problems that come along. For those that are on a tight budget, a good warranty, if such a thing exists, may be of help.

I agree, the roof warranty only covers the material cost. In the last couple of years I know of two cases that people paid an RV service company to replace their rubber roof. The cost was $100.00 per foot of the trailer length. This included the cost of the material.
