First tire blow out

First tire blow out on 2011 305skp. Left Jacksonville, Fl. headed for Branson, Mo. Tire blew right outside Montgomery, Al. Luckily there was a vacant gas station I could pull into so I could change it. Course it messed up the side, completely tore off the fender skirt and left some black marks. The black marks I think I can clean off. The fender skirt is gone completely. We may go to Ohio before heading back to Florida and our route will take us pretty close to Shipshewana, IN, does anyone know if they will sell us parts there and if so who could I possibly call. I have never made the factory tour so not sure how that would work. Looks like I just need the left side fender skirt and the little skirt that goes on the front of that. Any info would be helpful or does anyone have one just lying around somewhere. So if anyone sees a 2011 305skp with Florida tags and a banged up left fender with duct tape its me.

Take a very carefull look at the other three tires.

Look for tread seperation. Difficult to detect but I would bet you will have more problems in the near future.

The little piece you are talking about I believe is just cut from the skirt itself. I would think the factory can get one if you call ahead to let them know.

X2. The factory can take care of it and they are fair on parts cost.

Take the advice on checking all the tires you don't want another incident.

If you are going to Branson, just north of there about 20 miles in Ozark is a Cruiser dealership that might have one. Might give them a call.

I called Crossroads and they told me I had to go thru a dealer to get parts. I thought CR would deal with you, since I told them I would be coming right through there. I called a dealer that is by them, They called CR and got a price. Fender skirt no longer comes in White, only black or tan. Guess in my travels I will be on the lookout for a 2011 305skp with white fender skirts, I have my hex head driver with me. Owners beware.

Guaranteed you will have other blow outs with that set of tires. Two years ago we had three blow out in two separate incidents about 25 miles apart. $7,200 damage later we now own a motorhome. Those crappy China bombs will blow out. If you intend to keep your RV invest $2,000 in 16" Michelin RIBS and rims. Otherwise you should replace the RV tires every three years. Good luck and be safe.

I had a TPMS on the tires and it never even went off, until I unscrewed it from the blown tire. I always check them now and then on the road and it was reading the tire pressure ok. I looked up the fender skirt on Amazon as someone earlier recommended and it was around $125. Called the Factory and they recommend a dealer close to them, price was around $75. Called Camping World they had to call CR for a price, $36 pretty big variance in prices. I thought sure CR would let me pick one up from them. I may try again and talk to someone else. So far after 300 miles other 3 tires are doing ok (probably just jinxed myself) tires are 3years old as of Oct as stamped on DOT. No stress cracks and 5th wheel stored out of elements. If they just make this trip I will replace them when I get home.

What TPMS system do you have?

shoe2728, just curious. Ho fast do you go when towing? And, how fast were you going when the tire blew?

Try Tiara RV in Elkhart, IN. 866-880-3093. I had a tire blowout in late January that did some damage to the fender skirt. A rep at CrossRoads suggested that I call these folks. If you are going to be close to them it might be worth a call to see if they can get it for you at a good price. Their quoted price for one for my 2011 335SS was $39.38 plus freight.

Check the tires well. A few years ago we were on a trip and had 2 tires blow out on the same side(different times). After the second one blew I drove straight to a tire shop and replaced them all.

I was driving between 55 and 60, since we don't have to be in Branson until 10 Oct. we are just poking along taking our time.
Thank "gball" for the RV store info, I will call them on Monday and see what they can do.
Thanks all for the replies.

When you replace the tires, are you going to consider LT's?

I have been trying to research that, there just seems to be so many different ideas on the subject. I guess the biggest thing is if you were careful when backing up and didn't scuff the tires sideways. From what I understand that is the biggest different between ST tires and LT is the sidewall thickness. I don't want to start a big argument over this, I have been on other forms where this really got heated on the subject. That's why I can't really make up my mind.

To the OP.

Can you provide more information about the TPMS system you have.

You indicated the system did not alarm when the tire blew. I assume that means the tire lost all air pressure with no alarm.

I have the TIRE TRAKER system, well I cant say tire lost all pressure but it was well below 80psi and the threshold setting of 70psi. Just strange when I unscrewed it, then it went off. screwed back on the new tire showed pressure, unscrewed it and went off as suppose to. So not sure what happened.

I can guarantee you won't have problems with LT tires IF you get the right ones and the correct rims for them...

I now have a MUCH heavier trailer and never had an issue with the LT's in 10k miles of towing...

whereas on my previous 5er,
even my Goodyear st tires had a blowout in less than 1000 miles... great of Goodyear to refund my tire cost and 5er repair, but they didn't pay me for the 3 hours on the side of the interstate in 100 degree heat !!!

It's amazing what a tire carcass can do to heavy steel angle iron !

and thank goodness for a diesel that can idle with the ac on !!!!
