Frame flex?

Noticed a crack beginning at the corner of the front slide. Should I drill at the end?

There have been several have this same stress crack. With the advice from others I took a Dremel tool & cut through the crack, bought some plastic H trim at a local home improvement store & after removing some trim & carefully prying the gelcoat loose from the wood backing, slid the trim on, trimmed it, up trim back on, done.1109151321.jpg
My coach is painted, so I used touch up paint to match, the H trim I found was white.

Happened to me and TT's explanation of the fix is what CR told me to do. They shipped the H molding and it was pretty easy to repair. However, my crack was pretty much vertical from the bottom left of the bedroom slide corner to the trim of the overhang. If your crack is more horizontal or is shorter then I am not sure how I would have fixed it.

Others have had it crack at a 45 degree angle & the repair was the same. The H trim I found was in 8' pieces & I just trashed the 7 1/2' I had left, but it was only like $4 for the piece.

The most difficult part of the job was carefully separating the gel coat from the plywood under it, I used a plastic putty knife & carefully worked it under. Only cut the gel coat (about a 1/16") not the plywood. You can also trim the H trim back side down a bit so you don't have to slide under so much.
Hope this is clearer than mud!!

Thanks for the input. Think I might set it on the hitch and see what happens before I do anything. Thinking this should be covered under the 5 year structural warranty, but I sure don't want the dealer I purchased from trying to repair it.

I agree, it should warrantied but I'm a fulltimer & couldn't leave it with a dealer for 6 weeks for a $4 repair.
If you're is like mine the crack will either open up or close once connected.

You'd think as long as this has been going on, Lippert could have corrected the culprit. We're fulltime too. I actually have a mobile service that does my warranty work. Gonna check and see what he says about it.

On the last couple of year models of the Redwoods they have added the same expansion joint as shown on mine. My last SOB had the crack on the top corner of the bedroom slide. But I agree that there are several annoying QC issues that just keep showing up.

With frame flex, it will open when hooked up, worse when the rig is in motion.
