Sound about right with a gas engine, pulling more than 5k lbs in high profile weight.

I had the same set up except for a 2001 and I routinely got 9.9-10.0. When slowing to 60, I would get 10.2 but I generally travel 65. It was a good truck but slowed too much on the hills.

I have a 2008 2500 with the 6.0. I have upgraded the tires to 33in and reprogramed with the Hypertech to get the shift points right with the new tires.

Towing last weekend to the UP, I got 8.2-9.6. I believe the difference was in the gas. When I filled up at Shell (3 tanks) I got better mileage. This was at 70 on the interstate.

Empty, driving back and forth to work, I am getting between 14-15. It is all interstate at 75-80mph. 48 miles each way on a daily basis.

In town empty, I am getting between 10-12.

The hypertech programer has really helped my shifting.

I been thinking about getting a programer for my truck for the fuel mileage.

With the duramax empty we see about 22 empthy on pretty flat ground. I can get as high as 13 pulling the trailer if I'm taking it easy. It did 9mpg coming back from Taladega but we were 80+ on the way back.

jeffandaudrey,In 2001 I had a Chevy 2500 ext cab 4X4 6.0L(300hp)with 4.10 gears and we pulled a 8k TT with it at the time. I never saw more than about 8 mpg towing at speeds between 60 and 65 mph. Empty highway I got 14 to 15 mpg and empty around town 11 to 12 mpg so I would say you are pretty much right on for your truck. The newer gas trucks will get a bit better mileage than that but not enough to worry about.
