I do not yet own a generator yet but have exhausted my research in preparation to buy one. Your choices are simple if you want your fellow campers to like you, buy Honda or Yamaha because they are quiet and reliable. Buy two 2000W units and tie them together with a parallel kit, that way you get up to 4000 watts (really 3600 watts) and each unit weighs around 50 lbs. with fuel and are much easier to carry. You only need one if your not going to turn on the AC or other major appliances, then when you need the extra power you hook up the 2nd unit. Single 3000+ watt units are too big and too heavy to move around. There is a lot of information on the internet that compares the two brands. I am considering the Yamaha EF 2000is because the engine components are slightly better, it has a fuel gauge and you can run the fuel out of the carburetor, but you can't go wrong with the Honda EU2000i and its 2000-companion.

x2 for the Hondas. They were running some at the factory rally and at 10 feet conversation drowned them out. Was camping for nearly the whole month of July, and although I never felt the need for a generator before now, almost every CG I stayed at hadstorm/power failures. Penn. NC, Ohio, and Indiana. I'll warn you guys next time I book something

(And WV had just gotten their's turned back on)

One more thing...I've been told by many, make sure you purchase a really good chain/cable and lock to prevent them from being stolen, these little guys are in great demand by thieves. Also, I rented one recently and learned a lot about how to handle them and how well they power my travel trailer. Check out wisesales.com, they seem to have good prices.

Also give these folks a look. I bought my last one there, and they beat Wise's price.

I have 2 honda generators, the 2000 and the 2000 companion. I connect them when I need to run the AC. Otherwise one is enough.
After market parallel kits work well and are a little less the brand name honda.
The Hondas cost more than any others but you will greatly appreciate it when you start them and notice how quiet they are. Many campgrounds will list quiet run generators only and these are the quietest as far as I could find.
They also will come in handy outside of RVing when you need some portable power. I easily ran a power miter box and skill saw with one. The benefit of two mostly is the ease of toting the things around. My wife can handle one little problems. Also, I haul ours in our pack and play area of the RV and do not notice any smells from the gas etc....
I remove them once we get to our campsite and lock them up to the bumper with a bike cable.
You will notice that dealers are barred by Honda from publishing prices. They can loose their dealerships if they do. You will find some prices but if you can get them for around $950.00 ea you are doing good. If you find the cheaper then you scored a deal.
I would likely stay away from the used market as you do not know how they were treated or if they may be stolen.

Lastly the Hondas also have a great low oil feature and a override for too much power. AND they are safe for electronics such as computers and cell phone charging. Only inverter generators are safe for this.

Good luck.

Might suggest that you go to the Wise Sales website at www.wisesales.com and take a look at the Honda 2000ie combo pkg that includes the parallel cables and a RV adapter. They won't quote a price over the web but will over the phone.

Also take a look at the Yamaha 2400ie. If you're not spending a lot of time in the southern climes where it gets hot and stays hot even at night, then the Yamaha 2400 will work. Other wise my vote is for dual Honda 2000.
Be sure to note the dB levels, especially if you do any camping in CA or the Natl Parks.
Both of those have some real strict regs about generators, especially after 10PM to 6AM.
If you go with dual gennys, then consider an aux tank with dual genny feed for all night extended run times. Let me know if you need the pics or specs.

I have a Honda EU3000 and love it. Runs very quite and 15 to 20 hours on 3.5 gallons of gas. I bought it online from Speedway sales for I believe 1800 bucks with free shipping and I got it in 2 days. 2 of my friends also have the same thing and have never had a problem with them. They are well worth the money.

I also have the Honda EU3000 and it works very well and is quiet, runs a long time due to the size of the gas tank, also real easy to start, turn the key!! Downside is that they are heavy. We have a wheel kit on the generator so pushing it around isn't challenging. The hard part is lifting the thing in and out of the back of my truck bed where we tie it down while traveling, it takes two people and still not real easy. Lately, we have been considering selling this one and purchasing two 2000's simply because they are light enough it's easy for one person to move around. We also considered the Yamaha generators as well, don't think you could go wrong with either.<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" />

Livewire - that is a great idea, can you post a picture of how that looks, how you secure the generator to the cargo carrier?

i have a KIPOR 3000. basically a honda rip off. works well for me, low noise and about $500 cheaper than the honda. i was considering two 2

honda 2000's with the parrell kit. then i was camped across the way from someone who had that set up and for me it was noticeably noisier. that was a deal killer for me.

i also mounted mine to the rear rack on my camper. no more lifting. i think its about 147lbs.Edited by: spinella

Interesting spinella,
We ran the KIPOR side by side with the Honda and the Honda ran quieter.
If you compare, remember the loads must be exact on each one or the outcome will differ.
One honda in Eco mode running just a charger and some lights is a LOT quieter than 2 in parallel running the AC.

I'm talking about two 2000 Hondas running parallel compared to my kipor 3000. The two Hondas were noticeably louder. The Honda 3000 is quieter than my kipor 3000. A good friend of mine has the Honda 3000. Thats what I compared mine to.

Yamaha YG4000D - 69 db(A) full load. It has a plug that takes an RV adapter –

allows me to connect a RV 30 amp

connection to it. I can run the trailer

AC. Use it when I dry camp and go to

Watkins Glen for the races.Purchased it in 2003 when we went from a motor home and back to a fifth wheel. Got it for $1239.00 - $89.00 shipping - Goes for about $2000 to 2500.00 now

It is heavy – 127 lbs.

I have the wheel kit so I can get it around. It was easy to take along when I had a tow

hauler. I will need to get ramps to put

it in my truck.
