UPDATE:

The RV was picked up yesterday morning. The buyer had a gooseneck hitch installed in his truck. The hitch is the height of aconventional 5th wheel hitch. He bolted a goose neck adapter onto the kingpin. Essentially he now has a regular 5th wheel connection but with a ball. If you didn't look close you would think it was a 5th wheel hitch. He also has two massive safety chains attached to the adapter. They were able to hook up the Cruiser on the first attempt and tow it successfully back to their home about 85 miles away.

I took my truck to CarMax and sold it for $4,000 more than the dealer was offering in trade on the new Itasca. What I got was Kelly Blue Book value for a 2009 Silverado 2500HD LT 2WD Crew Cab with the 8' bed in "excellent" condition. There were 44,900 miles on the truck. In actuality that truck only depreciated $12,000 in 3-1/2 years.

We were to pick up the new MH tomorrow but there is heavy rain in the Houston area and here through Wednesday. Since this is the first time I will be driving such a large vehicle we decided to wait until later in the week when the weather is supposed to be rain free. Lots of traffic driving from the 4thto the 7th largest cities in the USA. The truck/Cruiser combination was actually longer but this is higher and wider. I know, I am a wuss but wear it like a badge of honor.

Art,
You're anything but a wuss...you are using all the experience and intelligence year's of towing have given you. Smart move, and best of luck down the road. Keep us posted on your travels and we'll meet you somewhere down the road.

Jim

No you are not a wuss. You are smart and playing it safe. Most of us would do the same thing if our time schedules allowed. Why drive in bad weather if you don't have to? Glad all went well with selling the old rig. I'll bet it was sad seeing it go. Enjoy your new MH.

Let them call you a wuss but I call you a Smart Wuss. No big hurry to pick it up, it's not like you needed it yesterday. I'm sure you'll get plenty of opportunities to drive in bad weather in the future when it can't be avoided, just no reason to get in a hurry.

Pictures, please, when you can
