Hot water coming out of toilet ?

I have a 2012 Z-1 251BH which I purchased in November 2014. I de-winterized it and fired up the water heater and everything works great. Hot water out of all the hot water taps and cold out of the cold. To my surprise when I went to flush the toilet for the first time hot water came out. I flushed a few more times and it became cold. It gets hot again once it hasn't been flushed for a while. I'm going to check the lines this weekend but it seems very strange. Anyone experience something like this?

Sounds like your toilet line is touching one of your hot water lines and heating up by contact. If all your cold lines were running warm I would guess your hot water tank check valve or bypass valve, but just the toilet leads me to my first conclusion.

Thanks for the reply, I'll check the lines and put some foam pipe insulation between the hot and cold lines to see if it fixes the problem.

If you have an outside shower make sure the valves are turned off and not just the shower head. Sounds like a bleed through issue

I'll check the outside shower, now that you mention it I saw something on YouTube about someone leaving the shower head off and having some bleed through of cold water so their hot water was never very hot.

If you forgot to shut the bypass valve and the toilet is the closest cold tap to the water heater, then you will get hot water to it. Especially if all of the faucets have been off for some time. Higher pressure in the heater and a check valve will have the hot water flowing toward the nearest open water tap until pressure drops and opens the check valve. Double check your de-winterize process.

Heat transfer between hot and cold lines is not likely to be significant unless hot water is continuously flowing thru the hot line. Same thing with an issue with the outside shower, since the lines are not insulated, hot water inside the line cools down very quickly if the water is not flowing.

Problem fixed. It turns out the bypass valve was not quite closed and letting just enough hot water thru next to the toilet to heat things up. Thanks to everyone for the quick responses to help me find the problem.
