I have the 10 gal. Atwood hot water tank in my 5th wheel and all of a sudden on the trip last week we noticed a substantial decrease in the hot water temperature. Normally it will scald your hand under full hot water with no cold mix. Now you can hold your hand under the faucet with no discomfort.

I tried swithing to gas but the same results are experienced on both gas and electric.
When I arrived home I placed my thermometer under the faucet and the temperature was 110.Internet research hasled me to believe the water tempshould be in the 130/140 range. I ordered a replacement thermostat and hope this corrects my problem. It's very easy to replace on my unit from the outside access panel. An adjustable thermostat was available but I opted to go with a standard replacement.........

Anyone ever experience problems withthe non adjustable units like mine??

We have not had any problems with our water heater but I would guess it is the thermostat too. You might want to look at the bypass valve and see if it is maybe partially open. If it were, I would think that would allow some water to bypass the heater and remix on the "other side" with the heated water and consequently cool it down. It is probably not the problem but under the category of eliminating all possibilities, it might be worth a look.

I know this probably won't fix your problem but I think everyone should carry one of these and use it at least once a year if not more. I try and rinse ours twice a year and you would be surprised at all the crap that will come out of your tank even if you are filtering the water as we do. I really believe this will help prolong the life of the tank and heating element.

As I recall, some of the newer units have a mixing valve somewhere between the water heater and shower valve. Some people have had problems with that which caused the same indications. Not sure if ALL units have this.
