Indoor storage

Does anyone know of anyone who would rent indoor storage for our Cruiser? We live in the Twin Cities, but have been storing our Cruiser at a friends farm in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. This is working well, yetwe'd prefer to store it indoors if the cost is affordable. Any leads would be appreciated.

How high is your rig? Who have you got it stored with now? Are you losing that space?
Reason I ask is I know of one place out of Rice Lake, and possibly one by me. I would have to check with him and see how high his building is.

Try your local county fairgrounds. Those fully enclosed livestock buildings with concrete floors make great and secure storage facilities.

According to specifications from the internet the trailer is 12'6" in height. I haven't actually measured it, but if the specs are correct I would think a 13' door would work well.

We arenot losing the storage in Rice Lake, but the poor trailer sits out in the sun all year long. This summer we will only use it twice. The rest of the time we'd prefer to have it protected from the sun.

Local fairgrounds are a good choice if: 1.) you don't mind putting it into storage when they require it to be stored away; 2.) you take extra precautions to protect your RV from rodents; 3.) you don't mind waiting to use your RV again in the spring until the fairground authorities once again open their doors for you to get it out, (typically this is a very short window of opportunity); 4.) you don't have any need to service, stow anything away after storage, need to get at anything in the RV while in storage, clean, or simply want to check on it during storage; 5.) and finally that your insurance company doesn't have any issues with this type of storage. If you can live with these issues it is a very low cost storage location that provides excellent protection against the winter elements.

I'm guessing from the statement above, the local fairgrounds will not work for you do to the fact that most local fairgrounds are inuse during the summer. Try a search on google for Rice Lake storage. Hopefully you can find something with a 13' or higher door.

I do agree with you about keeping your RV indoors, I built a40x40 with 2 - 12x16 doors to store ours in.Ithas proven to beawise investment since we do not get to use our RV but3 or 4 times a year.Once the kids are on their own the RV should still be in good shape and ready to hit the road.

I assume you don't have enough space to build your own garage? That would be the best option if you have the space. I put up a 16X45 shed with 14' clearance to store mine in and we have a little under 5 grand in it including labor. You could put one up yourself for less.

I agree that you should store it indoors if at all possible. I don't think climate controlled storage is necessary, but sun, rain, wind, and snow will take a toll on a camper in a hurry.

I'm not a big fan of fair ground storage barns. Before we build our present house, I had a good size storage building I had put up at the old place. I rented out space for a number of years. I have heard some pretty tough stories about fair ground storage from some of the people who rented from us.
Unless the policies have changed at the fair grounds since then, I certainly couldn't, and wouldn't recommend them.

We just took the RV out of the County Fairgrounds winter storage.

We needed to call a few hours ahead to be sure that the
crew is there to guide us in and out and move any equipment if so needed. Since
the fairgrounds activity center is rented out for all kinds of activities and
family gatherings there is full time staff on site and often weekend worker.
This secure facility is located at the city limits of the county seat and is patrolled
by city police and county deputies. They do employ pest control but we arm the
RV with everything from Cab Fresh, traps, Decon, and moth balls. Mice always
find a way in and usually pay the price.

You can take your unit out of storage at anytime by calling
ahead. Unfortunately a visit to check your RV will cost you a $20.00 escort fee
to cover taking the workers away from their assigned work.
