Items on the counters when traveling

Do you leave anything sitting on the counters when you're towing?

DW and I are heading out in the next couple of months for some short, "shake down" trips with our Hill Country 30 footer. I would think that you'd leave nothing on the counters or table top -- everything must be secured in a drawer or cabinet. DW thinks we should be able to leave small things in the kitchen sink and/or bathroom sink.

What say you?

Other than my traveling Nohm, which stays on the counter, we leave a dish soap bottle and hand sanitizer in the sink. Everything else is in a drawer or cabinet.
That being said... If you can afford to lose it, put it away

My wife uses the rubberized shelf liner under some things. Very rarely does anything slide off it.

We use to leave stuff on the counter but thanks to the wonderful bridge joints on our highways, we now put everything in it place until our next stop.

We use sticky pads to secure a couple of things, like a container with spatulas and the like. The coffee maker stays put very well on its own, and in the bathroom the liquid soap container stays put because of its shape (kind of like a bell). Everything else gets stowed.

It depends...
on how fast you drive,
how quickly you turn,
how hard you hit the bumps,
how bad the roads are,
how good your suspension is... etc..

We NEVER left anything out in the 5'er,
especially after our sliding shower doors and sliding closet doors broke off their hinges and the countersunk sink covers ended on the other side of the redwood 38' 5'er
Even the latched res fridge came open !
So I presume it's like an earthquake back there!

Heck, even in our tag axle motorhome that glides over the road, some interstate overpasses are so bad you can almost leave the ground !

Thanks, gang. You've all helped make my point to the DW. She hates the idea of having to set up house every time we stop for the night but she'll adapt. LOL

Had one additional question -- For those that have the booth dinette, do you travel with the table in the down/stowed position or do you leave it up when you are towing?

I'm leaning toward having it in the down/stowed position just to reduce the flex of the wall mountings.

Your thoughts?

Table is pushed down so it just sits on the cushions. Stops the wiggling of table ...no sense vibrating screws out of the wall.

Soap containers go in the sink, paper towel holder stays on counter, and sliding table stays in the up position.

We put everything away. We have forgotten some items on the counters and we're still there when we arrived. Better to be safe than sorry

Dish drain tray down inside 1/2 of the sink holds a cup, a couple of utensils, and things needed on the road. Soft stuff (towels) can stay, clothes can go on the bed. Just ask yourself, "Do I care if this flies around and hits the floor?" If you don't want your $200 Keurig hitting the floor, then the solution is obvious.

I gather all the loose items like pictures, decorative items (plastic plant) and put them in a bin. This way it's all together and easy to put back.

I have left things on our table by mistake and found them still there after a 200 mile trip.

But one time I had a Motor-home try to pass a 5th wheel on a two lane road on US 95 south of Needles California. After I was standing on the brakes with both feet and both hands on the steering wheel I will guarantee no mater how well your 5th wheel rides anything that was not tied down would be on the floor.

We leave nothing on the counters. It does make little trips a pain, but would rather take the 30 to stow everything than clean up and replace what breaks. I still need a better way to latch the pantry doors. Every now an then something will jump out, but I am worried about the doors swinging freely. The bathroom vanity door swung open and left the hinge side on the vanity and then mirror etc feel to the floor. Had to fix that and luckily the mirror didn't break.

We discovered that the magnetic latches on our cabinet doors don't keep the items inside the cabinets when driving on rough back-country roads with lots of curves. I installed child-proof latches on all the cabinet doors and it solved the problem. Anything sitting out on the counter goes into a bin that sits on the floor of our '13 CR SR Fiver.

we'll put bathroom counter items in the sink. Likewise to a couple loose kitchen items. everything else gets put away.

I've never put tables down. Ours are pole mounted, if it makes a difference.
