Large piston lift doors

I have the Hill Country HCT32RL. Love it !
It has the outdoor kitchen, and an outdoor lift door where you can turn the TV around and watch outside. One of the piston lift brackets has torn through the door on the inside, and the piston actually slips off the bracket regularly. I tried just using bigger screws into the lift door, but they also tore out. Is there a good way to repair this without replacing the whole door ?

We had a Salem 5th wheel that had a garage if you will. It was not a toy hauler but had a floor to ceiling storage compartment the width of the camper with a outside refrigerator. I think they called it a "beer and bait" model. The large door at the rear had struts to hold it up and the screws pulled out so the dealer put a 4x4 in plate and then attached the struts to it. It worked for us. The plate helped spread the stress over a larger area. Not sure if that will work for you but it did for us.

Could you screw a longer piece of aluminum flat bar on the inside and attach piston to that?

How about bolts all the way through, probably with a backer plate of some kind?

I agree with the need for some type of metal backing plate used that will cover a larger area. If you use one large enough, it will spread the stress out over that larger area and maybe eliminate the need for bolting all the way thru the door.

I used a 4 gang electrical box cover. I secured it with 3M marine adhesive then screwed the bracket to the cover.
