I use a socket, extension and breaker bar I bought just for the 5er. I also have a "trailer buddy" which is a small ramp that I pull the 5er up onto which lifts the flat tire off the ground.

I also use a socket, extension, and breaker bar. I use a torque wrench for reinstalling and periodic checking. I bought one of these to use in case of a flat.

I have a power bar, the appropriate socket, a socket extension and a 2 ton bottle jack. This worked well for me last summer when I had a tire blow. I also have a torque wrench to properly tighten the lug nights. I have a 18V battery impact wrench that speeds up the work but isn't strong enough to do anything but snug up the lug nuts.

I use a 12-ton bottle jack, enough 4x4 & 2x4 to reach the frame, and an extendable lug wrench from Walmart, a torque wrench from Harbor Freight and assorted 1/2 drive sockets to fit lug nuts, axle and spring bracket nuts. Only had to use it once so far, but it works very well.

Not trying to be smart or anything. But why do you use a lug wrench when the torque wrench will also remove the lugs. Just asking? I have a compact 10 Ton floor jack that comes with it's own plastic box and use the torque wrench with deep socket and extension to remove and install. Edited by: Deputydog

You can exceed the capacity of the torque wrench when loosing the bolts. Over time rust and other factors can make it much harder to loosen the lugs then what they were tightened to.

From everything I have ever heard or read---a torque wrench is made for tightening, not to loosen. You can damage the wrench using it to loosen.

I tried to change a tire...used [I thought] the appropriate socket and it split. Yep, you guessed it...it was a standard socket, not heavy duty.

Then, I called road service, as that was the end of my sense of adventure.

Old Farmer is correct, torque wrenches are designed to apply torque in one direction and then "break" at the specified setting and not to be use to loosen nuts. They should also be set back to zerowhen not in use.

While I agree that the torque wrench should not be used to loosen the lug nuts, most torque wremnches can set torque in both clockwise and counter clockwise rotation. Even the beam type. This is because there are left handed threads.

Mine is a heavy torque that can set torque in both clockwise and counter clockwise rotation. I have never had a problem using in either direction. And I agree you should always set it back to zero when finished. One day it may break removing the lugs. Working good so far. Thanks for the advice though; I will keep in mind.
