Mastercraft Tires
Just purchased our first 5th wheel, it has Mastercraft tires on it. Is this a good tire brand?

Mastercraft, if I recall, was sold at Western Auto stores years ago, I haven't seen a WA in years.

Mastercraft tires are made by Cooper, a pretty good tire. I run them on the Subaru. Available all over here in PA at just about all tire stores.

Mastertrack are one of the China bomb brands. I have them on my Cruiser and will be getting them replaced next spring. Some of the stories about them are bad. Friend had his blow out and took out part of the side of the camper.
Only ST tire made in USA is Goodyear Endurance.

Looks like some air bags on the rear of the truck should be in the future also.

I just put a set of Goodyear Endurance on our 5th wheel. It had the Mastertrack tires and I didn't trust them. Beside the date code on the tires was approach 6 years. We've completed one short trip with the Goodyear tires and all seems good. The stance of the Goodyear tire is much better then the Mastertrack. The old tires seemed like the side walls were too soft and always appeared to be under inflated even when at 80 PSI. The Endurance tires do not have this condition. At first, I thought the tires were over inflated because there was no side wall flex, but a quick check showed they were at 80 psi.
Another thing I like about the Endurance tires they have a speed rating of 87 mph. I only tow at 65 mph but knowing I have the extra assurance on the speed rating helps to give me peace of mind.

Be sure -in addition to better quality tires- that you upgrade at least a letter grade for higher load bearing ability. I honestly don't know if Chinese tires are that bad or if they are just so close to their failure limits due manufacturers' cost cutting. Probably both. You will probably find that your current tires are close to your unit's max weight figure and have a low speed rating as well. Trailer tires, below industrial grade at least, aren't as robust as vehicle tires so you need some margin. I had to buy new wheels when I upgraded tires and to me it was well worth it. Google "light truck tires on trailers" or similar to see discussions. Some like them, some don't. After much research, I bought LT tires and like them very much.
Bottom line: You can't have too much or too high quality rubber under your unit but you can't count on the factory to provide even a moderate amount of either.

Our rig came with the Marathons and I replaced them with G114 before our first trip. hated to spend the money but was better then loosing the side of the trailer with a blow out.
