Mud Dauber Screen for Slinshot

Hi,

We just purchased a 2012 32QB Slingshot. I have looked everywhere for a mud dauber screen for the furnace and cannot seem to find one that will fit.The vent measures 5x5 inches.Can anyone help?

I just bought one for my ST29RL. Got it at CW. It was the small square one - just had to bend the sides inward a little to clear mounting screws. it works fine. Much better than having a furnace that doesn't work when it's 28 F.

Thanks for the suggestions. My CW does not carry anything small enough but I did find a small round one at PPL today that I am going to try.

I have the same exhaust that you have. The screen I bought is approx 4 1/2" sq and yes I did have to bend the sides inward a little to make it fit. It is all Stainless and comes with two springs to hold it in place.

Thanks. The round one I bought was too small. I ordered the 4.5 square one on Amazon last night and will give that one a try. Weird how none of the suppliers here have it.

more weird they know they are a problem but don't put the screens on before hand. We had a coachman once that the wasps mudded up after the camping season.......cost way more than a little screen did for the repairs and the burned up motor that was trying to move that squirrel cage full of mud.

We are RV newbies. I have been reading so many horror stories about the cost of repairing insect damage, it scares me not having the screen on there. Do the insects just move in when the trailer sits for an extended period of time? (yes is the answer I REALLY want to see. LOL!)

The big problem is mud daubers. They will move into any small protected area. It cost me a $100.00 service call and $60.00 for two tanks of propane to get my furnace cleaned after they (mud daubers) had moved in. I now have screens on the furnace and I also made a screen that goes in the hot water tank area. It was all a very expensive lessen and to make it a little worse we were just starting out on a two month trip south. Got into Nashville 30 deg out and just as cold in.

Here is the answer you are looking for...Yes. Two years ago my furnace kept tripping the breaker, so I took the thing out and found several nests holding the blower fan. Cleaned it, replaced it and bought the screens...

I went to my hardware store and bought a stainless steel screen they sale it by the foot. I then cut it to fit. it works great.

How did you attach it? Did you put it behind the vent?

I pulled the screws out and just put them through the wire. The wire is stiff so it holds just fine.

I just bought a strainer for about $1 at Walmart and pulled off the handle. Then, I screwed the strainer part into place and it works just fine. (It makes me mad that they charge so much for a little piece of screening at the camper stores.)

And, yes you do need one. My sister was camping with us up in the mountains and spent one very cold night without heat because a mud dauber hunk of petrified mud lodged in the heater fan area and the blower would not blow. My hubby used a coathanger and fished the piece of mud out of there the next day. He was lucky to be able to get to it otherwise it might have been a costly repair.Edited by: 4AggiesMom
