New hitch

I have the B&W Companion right now and at over 200 pounds for the two pieces it's starting to get old removing and installing. I use my truck for work so it can't remain in the truck, I'm looking into the Anderson Ultimate 5th wheel connection. What say you?

Shane, I can't wrestle my hitch around either.
If you have a building, you can do what I did. I mounted a boat wench on the wall, ran two ropes up to the ceiling, used a couple pulleys to get it over form the wall. Now I can handle the hitch with ease all by my self.

Mine connects in my gooseneck receiver so it binds when I try to hoist it out so I have to climb in the bed to wiggle it free. That gets old.

Some people leave it on the King Pin, release it from the PU bed and raise it with landing gear. Then they lock it so it can't be released. I have never done it myself.

The wife just said " there's no way you'll get that shaft lined up with that hole" she may be right.

Your just going to have to prove your DW wrong! You can lower the hitch to a support structure when stored to reduce any stress. As far as reconnecting, with guidance I bet you will get it done. There may be a thread on this on RVnet.com. I read about it somewhere. I do obviously have a selfish interest. Good luck let us know what you decide.

Hitch

If anyone finds a link or anywhere that someone has done this I would be very interested to see it.

Thanks again,
Jim

ok, I tried it out today. No problem removing hitch, but lining back up in the receiver is a difficult task, it has to be perfect or it won't work. I guess I could simply drop the hitch in the truck and handle it from there, that's better than lifting.

Thanks Lloyd I had a feeling you would sniff it out. I did not find it when I searched.
There you go Jim will you try it?
Shane glad to see you tried it sounds like it will still be an eaiser task. I still feel I would configure some type of support structure under it.

@Al,
Not really sure, but it was something else to file away in the old cobwebs in case it's needed some day. I full-time and I was going to see my daughter this summer in Watertown, WI and saw a home that the Asplundh Company had just cut a hickory tree down and the wood was all stacked on the lawn. As it turned out the owner didn't want it and my daughter and SIL have a fire pit in their back yard. It was a nice amount of wood so I had to go to my daughter's, have her husband help me take the hitch apart, take it out and put it in their garage, get the wood, bring the wood back and stack it, then put the hitch back in. Believe me by the time I was done carrying and stacking that wood I wasn't ready to lift that darn thing. So, had I known this was available and can be done, I may have tried that. So, as I say, I now know it can be done and will probably have cause to do it sometime in the future.

Thanks guys,
Travel well,
Jim

My wife helps me move our hitch around, with 2 people it's no problem.

Seriously though if you left it on the trailer you could back under it close to where it goes, lower it into the bed, and unhook it from the trailer. Pull up and position the hitch then back up and hook up. It would take a few minutes longer but no heavy lifting.
