Nitrogen in tires.

What is the best way to top off my tires that supposed are filled with nitrogen? I know I can just add air, but is there a benefit to using canned nitrite if there is such a thing?

The nitrogen keeps the tires running cooler right?

the 'concept' behind nitrogen
(other than fishing for mo money )
is that its molecule are smaller and ideally wont leach out thru the rubber as fast....

IMHO nitrogen in tires is a gimmick. I just top off with good ole regular air. Air has almost 79% nitrogen anyway.

My neighbor is an airline mechanic. He said they use nitrogen in some air plane tires. Says it prevents rust and corrosion.

I don't plan to have mine that long.

Yep I kept the green caps on mine. But just use air. It's a gimmick I agree.

I kept mine up with nitro, just stop at a tire place and most of them have it ,never got charged for any...but it was probably just air.

I'm going seasonal this year, so I'll just check them before I have it brought from my house to the campground. I plan to replace all four China bombs before I hit the road to travel.

Profit center. There may be minor advantage for commercial duty on an aircraft but for casual user I'd say its just a gimmick. You have regular old dirty air on the outside of the tires after all.

I'd rather check and top off the tires each trip with a pound or two of regular old air if needed to be safe, than let it go until I find a service station that can charge me and fill them with nitro. Just my 2 cents. Air is 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and 1% mixture of other gases. Where as the nitrogen claim for your tires is 100% bs, imho.

2x on the comments its a gimmick.

I work with physicists and engineers. They chuckle when I bring up the nitrogen in my trailer tires.

There are so many other factors and attributes of towing that play into tire performance, wear, and MPGs.

Its up there with keeping your tow vehicle waxed for better fuel efficiency

I agree it is probably a load of horse pucky, but the part about the tires not heating up as much at highway speeds does sound feasible enough to make it sound like it's a good thing. Regular air it is.

Nitrogen for trailer tires it is a gimmick.

In auto racing nitrogen is used in tires to keep the pressures more consistent to keep the handling of the car more consistent. Nitrogen gas doesn't expand as much as air when heated, therefore, the pressure doesn't increase in the tire as much as air will. Important concept in auto racing but not critical in trailer towing.

I use air in my trailer tires.
