Oops!

Sunday night I towed my 2016 Cruiser 315RL home from our seasonal site. No problems, not a hitch. Backed into driveway all good. To recap, pulled out of a seasonal site onto a narrow patch of dirt road, through campground and home 30 miles in the dark.

Yesterday after work I decided to go out for some practice. Should have left well enough alone. I took a right turn too tight, hit a stop sign. Scraped the awning pole, broke the window in the door and scraped another window. I think the pole and window will buff out, but if not, it's not that noticeable. If that wasn't enough, after doing some turning and backing, I was going home, less than a mile and noticed smoking from the wheels. The emergency brake pin had pulled out. Put that back in and it's all good.

Anyone know the best way to get a replacement window for the door? I took off the inside panel and cleaned up all the glass. I called a local glass company, they would have to order the tempered glass with radius corners. About $200. Haven't called Camper's Inn or CW yet for prices. DW is already hopping mad at me, (because my goal yesterday was to damage the camper), so if I can find the replacement glass at a better cost, then that's what I will do. Any resources or suggestions anyone?

Thanks

HEHR will or should have what you need. I’ve replaced windows and window gaskets in the past. *1 (800) 637-8938‬ Hey, happens to us all (or most of us) at one time or another. Or you can look them up online to pick your window.

Here is a link to CW. eBay also has a selection, search "rv door glass".

I used the glass from CW to replace the frosted window.

My previous 5er had plexiglass in the door, you could get that in smoked color for less than $100. I replaced the screen in my screen door with gray plexiglass for $95, one of the best mods I've done, can keep the door open summer or winter.
I also, recently had an OOPS, after towing for 40+ years & +/- 150k since going fulltime I finally had my turn, looking every direction but where I should be been looking.

I wish it were only $200, but got good insurance.

I also used plexiglass to replace a broken window. Went to Lowes and bought a piece for around 30 dollars and cut it to fit. never had a problem with it.

The clear view entry glass is kind of nice.

I'm sorry about your mishap. I told DW it could have been worse as the stop sign was next to a phone pole.

Maybe when I saw the smoke from the wheels because the emergency pin had come out I should have let it burn to the ground...... hoping the brakes are okay.

At least I was less than a mile from home.

I just feel dumb. Before I went seasonal 15 years ago I towed a shorter 5th wheel all over New England every weekend during the summer.

One thing I thought about was making a replacement window stained glass panel. I have been making stained glass on and off for about 20 years.

The wife said it would be illegal because it's not tempered.

Any thoughts on that? I have a ton of glass, I can just cut a piece to put in until I make the panel. For that matter I could use any color or type of glass I want, I have everything I need to cut it to fit.

If you can salvage the frame or insert, and can do lead/cut glass/picture. I'd would somehow be trying to make a picture window replacement. Sky/sun/ mountain landscape or something. even if I had to sandwich it between tempered glass. Just a thought, but would be unique and look dynamite. Something no one else can say they have.

Know a fellow camper who made stained glass windows for himself, plus they are available online. Don't see a problem putting one in. Building the campers as they do, I don't see a problem with the window not being tempered.
