Power or no power

So we are going to leave our camper at a seasonal site and was wondering if we should keep it on shore power or not for several months. Maybe best to disconnect battery and leave off power? My son keeps his on shore power but says his battery dead years ago. Opinions welcome.

I personally would not. I would be afraid something would happen while I’m gone. I would disconnect the battery and leave power off.

If your sons rv was rugged into shore power he had someone,g set wrong or the battery wouldn't have died, unless it was just it's time (4-5 years is about typical).
I agree, do not leave plugged in & physically disconnect the battery by disconnecting the cable, not the built in disconnect.

If leave at a seasonal site means you are storing it I would unplug and disconnect the battery. If you mean you will be using it every week or so just not moving it leave it plugged in battery connected. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the responses. The reason I asked was because when we went to check battery after several months in hospital the battery caps were blown off. It still had water but I bought a new one, it was three years old. We don't plan on using it much this year either. Maybe next year when wife recovers, thanks.

Prayers for a speedy recovery for your wife. Under your circumstances I would unplug the camper and remove the battery then you could keep it charged at home till needed.

Power or No Power

I am building a garage with 50A RV hookup where I plan to leave my Z1 plugged in at all times. At the same time I will use a battery minder on my battery. I have found these gadgets lengthen the life substantially on my lead-acid ham radio batteries. Not much experience with RV batteries though.

We have left the Z1 in a park on a monthly basis and always leave the power on with the AC set to around 85. I turn off the water as I do not trust the plastic piping.

Battery minder is hooked up whenever piratical.
