So, I take it that a 60" x 20" cargo rack to hold a Honda EU2000i generator is not a good idea?

Having a truck, my question is---why would you not put it in the pickup box? It would certainly be safer and more protected there.

I primarily want the generator off of the ground while dry camping. I have a tool box and fuel storage areas in the back of my truck that limit the space available but I do have room to transport in the bed of my truck, if need be.

Do you not, want the gen. sitting on the ground when you are using it?
If you are thinking that the rack would be a good spot for it be sitting while it's running, I think you could be asking for trouble if the exhaust gets in the camper.

I have two of the EU2000i Honda's and I try to stretch the power cord out and get the gen. set up down wind of the camper.
I don't have any objections to them setting on the ground. If it rains, I move them under the camper, but I don't run them there. Carbon monoxide is not something I monkey with.

I have been placing the generator about 20' from the trailer, under a pop up in case the weather goes south......which it has a few times. (rain, snow, hail...etc)

I just wanted to know if being on a rear cargo rack would be okay, since some 5th wheels have an interior generators in a compartment.

I guess the bright side is I'll save about s $125.00 for a folding cargo rack with a waterproof case I found on eBay.

I already have a metal platform I set the generator on top, so I'll just keep using that.

This is how I mounted mine, got carrier from harbor freight, didnt like the idea of only one tube to mount carrier. I bought two of the bolt on hitch mounts that have 2x2 receivers, then bought some 2x2 tubing and added those to the carrier, so if you look at the carrier the original center tube is not used. I carry a Kipor 3000 generator on the back, if your worried about fumes you can add a stack to the exhaust to get it above the trailer. We stop over at rest areas or truck stops and not feasible to move generator 15 feet from fifthwheel. have cable that plugs into generator then into RV. Runs very quiet and no problem watching TV. I know some will say not a good idea mounting on bumper, do want to make your bumper properly welded and storing, So far I have traveled well over 9000 miles and no problems.
