Rear Water Tank

Hello everyone,
we have a 35 ft Paradise Pointe trailer with a rear water tank, just wondering about travelling with it full? I don't know what the tank supports are like on this trailer and feel that it is a lot of weight to be bouncing around back there. What do others do, transport empty and fill up at the destination, or am i worrying unneccesarily?
Many thanks

My suggestion would be for you to crawl under the rear of that thing and check to see if there has been any additional supports added under the tank. If not, then you should add a couple 1 in. square tubes across the frame under it. Or, what ever you feel would be adequate.

I think the PP is of the era of when CR was guilty of not supporting the tanks the way they should have.

I know mine didn't have enough support to carry a full tank of water. I added two 1 in. square tubes under it.

I usually travel empty to save fuel and weight, then fill up when close or use their water when I get there, but never had a problem so far. When i take it in for maintenance the dealer always fills it up for me and I dump it when I get home.

I always remind them to leave it empty but they dont, dragged 40 gallons to Alabama with me last year. I was not happy.

water tank

A gallon of water is 8.43 lbs. a gallon,
if you have a 40 gal, water tank that's 337.2 lbs.
That's a lot of weight to hull.
If you have to haul with water do what Lloyd said.
I had to haul with water one time and I ran two ratchet straps across the frame under the tank,it worked well in a pinch.

As soon as I get time I'm going to beef up my supports with some square stock, the straps on my Z-1 are a joke.

Not to mention that weight is all the way in the back; which takes weight off the tongue. Could cause a sway problem.

We always carry a little water in the
water tank, for any emergency
situations, never over 1/3 full on
account of excess weight.

I carry no more than 8-10 gallons when traveling. I figure that's enough for some toilet flushes and hand washes en route. I also don't trust the supports on our Z-1 but haven't taken/had the time to beef them up. The square stock idea sounds solid.

Rear Water Tank

Thanks for all the replies, i got the trailer in my shop and had a look under it and found the previous owner must have added extra channels, the tank is well supported. We like to camp in some spots that are random dry campsites so need to take water with us which makes me happy that the tank has extra supports.
