Removing the dometic over range microwave

I can not figure out how to remove the microwave its dometic over range. I can see gap between shelf and microwave all the way around no screws. No screws on top. I have removed every plate etc I can find. Is it on a bracket? I have removed everything I can find and not able to see where it units is attached.

Try under the microwave
Does it have a exhaust fan
Maybe remove the vent filters sometime in side of them
Otherwise look up the model online and find the installation instructions

You should be able to remove the four screws in front and slide that sucker straight out. Unplug it of course.

I've removed more than one, and I currently have a hole where one was.

Should slide straight out.

Removing Dometic Microwave

I too am trying to replace my Dometic.

I've replaced several microwaves over the years... but this one has me stymied. I've removed the front two screws and the electrical cord is freed. The front comes down an inch or so... but that's it. Rather than rotate down on the back plate I can't pull it down with all my weight.
It should be just resting in the flange on the rear mounting plate.
I've pulled up the installation instructions and I see something about 'rod retainer screws' in the (rear) mounting plate?
How the heck do you get at them?

Any help would be appreciated.

Howdy... and request for help.

New to this forum... chasing a thread on Dometic microwave removal.

I'm a full-timer... nursing a 2007 (pre-DEF) DP through my retirement years.

I'm trying to replace my Dometic microwave that died after 14 years of dedicated service.

If you could post a picture, that would help alot. Yours sounds different than mine. I pulled off the front surround (if that is what it's called) and slid the microwave out. Then I just got a microwave at Walmart and replaced it. I never put the surround back on. It's been completely fine. It's been a few years now.

Now that I'm thinking about it, some microwaves have those retaining screws on the front.
See if there is a plastic cover across the top with vents. On a residential microwave you can pull that off and there are 2 long screws that you can loosen from the front. Sometimes you don't even have to pull off the plastic cover. You can see the screws through the cover.

That’s what I have. I removed the panel over the microwave to access the two long screws. It should just drop down so it can be lifted off and removed from the rear mounting. But it won’t drop more than 3/4”. There are no rear screws visible inside the access space.

That looks like a regular residential microwave to me. There should be two top screws. I can see one in the picture. They should reverse out. A #3 Phillips tip.
Then the microwave should tip down.
But, like you said, it only wants to come down 3/4".
There should be a back mounting plate that is screwed to the sidewall. They have two tabs on them, where the microwave hooks in. You hook it on, tip it up, while you feed the cord through the hole, then put in the top two screws.

Sorry I couldn't have done more to help. I suppose try prying on it?

The nut in the top of the microwave is more like a clip. It has some movement back and forth. The bolts/screws on the top have about 1/4" with no threads on the end. It's so you can get it started in the nut on the top of the microwave.

Headed home, for the day. I'll see if I can log in from home. Just moved so my computer situation isn't completly user friendly, yet.

Update

Update: You were spot-on builditguy. There was no mention in the installations of the need to remove that plastic cover (grill) but after removing two retaining screws on top the grill pops off and there were the two 15" retaining rods.
[Here is where I don't mention that we took the microwave off the wall before we found them and got it separated from the mounting plate.]

I've seen them where they have 2 screws behind a removable panel on the front of the unit that pass all the way through from front to back plate. Not sure if thats what he was dealing with......
