I have a Zinger 19 that we bought in the spring. I am getting it ready for winter and wondering what I should do, if anything, to the roof. I found various rubber roof cleaners and UV protecotrs and would like suggestions on what to do. The camper will be staying outside in western NY.

Roof people say you don't need to do anything except inspect it. I would put the UV protection on it for outside storage and clean it with the roof cleaner first. Thats going to help stop the black streaks and a good wax , at least where the gutters come down would help.

I justed cleaned my roof with a mild auto soap and a RV wash brush. It removed the dirt and "chalk" that builds up over the year. It will help keep the sides clean as when it rains, all that old residue is gone.

I did however, find a split where the front fiberglass transitions into the rubber roof. The metal molding that connects both sides had lifted and allowed the fiberglass panel to raise up. After re-drilling new holes and using stainless screws, not the old rusty zinc original ones, and a white elastomeric roof compound, I sealed it back up.

Rain expected later today so we caught it in time (last rain 6 months ago). Just goes to show you that at least an annual inspection of your roof is paramount.Edited by: r2millers

Each time you clean a roof you remove roof material. I would recommend keeping cleanings to a minimum and only if you are getting streaking on the sides of the trailer.

rcflyer,

Good point on cleaning. I am pretty careful to use a mild soap and soft bristles to complete. I don't make it a habit to wash unless very dirty and required.

It also gives me time to do a thorough inspection at the same time.

I should be seeing the wood pretty soon. If something would happen to my roof it wouldn't have been that way for long. Camper don't leave dirty and dont stay dirty when we get home.
