When I purchased the unit, the dealer mentioned 2" of spray foam insulation to seal up the bottom and provide better insulation properties. Approx $1800 Does this seem like a good idea to insulate and help keep any mouses out of the house?

I would not pay $1800 for it but that is me. Plus how much is he or any other dealer going to charge you to dig that out if you have a leak develop or have to get to a wiring problem should one arise?

I agree. If it is the same stuff I am familiar with it expands quite a bit and who knows what it will do while expanding. Also, unless they remove the under belly membrane, how do you ensure it gets into all the voids?

I agree with Hunter11. With that much foam it would be almost impossible to get to anything for repairs.

For 1800I would hope that they are going to provide access openings for all of your plumbing and run all of the electrical in conduit. Also keep in mind that the added insulation is great for freeze protection, (not that it gets very cold in BC) but the only heat source that you have in the underbelly is the radiant heat loss from your in floor ducted heated.

Just mho.

Why not ask Crossroads for more details regarding the insulation? Whether they provide for repair/inspection of piping/wiring would be a good place to start.

All it would take is a phone call.

Not a bad suggestion. I could see it being done after the first layer of flooring was put done on the frame. I would think the spray foam would be applied to the under side before any wiring, plumbing or protective membrane was in the way. If that's the case it's not a bad idea, the only problem i see then is the $1800. Seems a little steep to me.

Thanks for all the replies. This is a dealer "add-on" and when I talked to the dealer they did say that once applied and if they had to access whatever that required removal of the insulation, that would cost extra.Re&Re of the spray insulation would not be covered by the factory (extended) warranty. Being our unit has the Polar Package and the slides in for the winter, I'm going to leave it. Just thought it might be a good idea for more insulating properties and to help keep any critters out of the RV.

We had this on our 2003 Mountaineer and while it did help with heat loss through the floor, it was a true pain when anything went wrong under the trailer. And believe me, plenty can go wrong from simple wiring issues to plumbing leaks. It took me over an hour to scrape away only 6 square inches of foam.
I would not do it again.
I do recommend going through your trailer and filling all voids and penetrations through the floor with expanding foam to seal it up better than it comes from the factory.
