Shell starting to get a wave

I was wondering if anyone else is having this problem. I have a 2011 Sunset Trail, Travel Trailer and the front and back are starting to get some dimples or waves. Any suggestions...

When was the last time you went up on the roof and resealed the front and rear caps?

You should check your caulking, top to bottom, front to back at least once a year and touch up where needed. Water intrusion is an RV's worst enemy and this is what sounds like your problem is. The shaking they get while in transit tends to loosen things up, like caulking.

Mine has been doing it from day one. They come and go with the seasons. Just be sure your on top of your sealing work.

Shell getting a wave

Thank you for your suggestions. I will definitely look at the rubber roof and the caps. We recently purchased used. This is all new to me and the wife.

If it is inconvenient for you to check all the seals and caulking, for a fee, most rv service centers can do it for you. Don't know how much, but for a person who just purchased a used rv, it might be worth the cost.

Hi I am curious, if there was a bad seal on the roof what product would a person use?

Are you referring to where the cap meets the roof? If so--Eterna bond tape.

Other wise I would say Dicor self leveling lap sealant for around vents etc.

my 11' slingshot has a wave in the front fibrglass where it meets the diamond plating. The previous owner said it was like that when he bought it brand new which I tend to believe since many pictures on google show similar problems with them on the lot. My local dealer said I should bring it in and have the seem checked at the very least to make sure its sealed properly. He also said the fiberglass was glued to something else behind it and they can naturally come apart even without water intrusion. So it may not be a water problem but best to get it checked out before it turns into a disaster.

LLoyd -- I check my seals every few months and apply some Dicor where needed, including along the cap seam. Are you saying for the cap seal, Eterna-bond tape should be used as a preventative measure or only if there is a problem? I also have the Eterna-bond tape, but have that on hand in case of emergencies.
Thanks,
mike

Mike
I went over the front seam on mine with eterna bond tape a few years back.
That seems to be a good area for water intrusion to start. Plus at that time there was talk of the roof membrane coming lose and tearing back.
I don't have to be quite so vigilant now.
For anybody that does this, make sure you clean it good, go slow with putting the tape down. Because it won't come back up if you screw it up. Also roll it out/down to make sure the air is squeezed out and there is a good seal.
