Slide construction material

Have a 06 Cruiser. Yesterday noticed on living room slide exterior (on the end) flooring had dropped below slide about 1/2”. Pulled open black covering to see what kind of wood was used, but instead of wood found a dark material. Have no idea what it could be. Any help would be appreciated.

From what I have always heard, they used OSB for the floors in the slide. If yours is black, maybe you should check for water damage.
The floor dropping down on the end wall is usually caused by the slide being used when it's retracted. There isn't any support on the inner end when it's in the retracted position. Mainly because it raises up when it comes in and the leading edge is off the floor. I have made a set of boards I can slip under the edge when it's in. That way it's supported and we can use it when traveling and stop for lunch.
That was a big deal back when CR started building these rigs. Much talked about on the forum. Plus, a few end walls that got blowed out.

It is black material. The slide has been extended for quite awhile and suspect rain water has seeped into the OSB and weakened it. Thanks for the helpful info.

I would say its moldy wood. Slide floors are usually plywood or osb both would be wood color. Are you sure there is not another layer of the black cover you are seeing? Cant say on yours but my cruiser has a black corner then under that it is wrapped in the black material - the same thing that is under the camper.
