Slide out Cable (outside of bedroom) - 29RL, 2016 Sunset Reserve

We are on an extended trip. Our trailer is almost brand new and we are new to this type of travel.

One of the cables on the outside of the extended slideouts has some slack in it.

We have to pack up and head west early tomorrow morning. Is this something we can fix? Is it going to be a big problem? How much should we worry?

Our slideouts components were made by Lippert - are they affiliated with Schwintek?

if the trailer is new , it would be a cable slide by BAL...if I am correct ...not a schwintec...company changed slide mfgs.

I believe a small amount of slack in a Bal Cable slide out system is normal. Is it functioning properly?

If it is a Bal system, go here: BAL - Innovative Products for the RV Industry.

You can download a manual for it with troubleshooting.

Our daughter had slack cables on one of her slides on her 2015 ST 270BH. It still worked fine. When she had a chance, she ran it into a shop and the guy tightened them for her.

Not to worry

Diane we have the new BAL cable slide on our 2015 ST32BH, when the slide is out the cables on the outside may have some slack. When the slide is in the cables on the inside may have slack. When your slide out is in the out position the cable pulling the room out will be taunt and you wont be able to see it. Nothing to worry about. Hope this helps.

I contacted who I thought was the slide out mfg., but they told me my slid outs were made by Norco. I called them and they said to NOT use the slide out until I got the slack fixed. Lucky for us, it is the bedroom slide and we can still use the bed, dresser (not easily), and the closet. We have an appointment at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning! Thanks for the feedback. We are too new at this to take any chances.

When the slide is out the cables on the outside will be slack. Those cables are used for bringing the slide in. The ones for bringing it out will be tight and hidden from view. Up to 2 in of flex is allowed in the non used cables. In fact if you do not have slack in the non used cables it causes excess pressure on the motor and will burn it out. You can read about proper adjustment in the manual.

I did get the cables fixed at an authorized facility. The slack cables were corrected. Thanks for the input.
