Solar, mounted or freestanding ?

For those of you who have added solar capacity, which do you prefer?

I see the ups and downs of both, so if someone has tried both and settled on the "better" approach, definitely offer your sage advice!

We don't have a ton of tall trees and usually park in clearings. I don't like the idea of having to bring a ladder everywhere, but also like the idea of the not having to worry about kids and dog knocking over/falling into a panel set up. My TT doesn't have a mounted ladder either. Wouldn't mounted solar allow charging while driving?

pros cons, etc for those who have experience. Much of ours is off the grid and while the genie is nice, even less work would be more nice.

And feel free to call me a newbie and show the thread where the dilemma has been resolved for someone else.

Oh, and we have not run the AC after year 1 so having the extra kick of a large generator isn't a concern, solar should cover our usage.

mount several panels on the roof and add more batteries. Measure your actual use and size panels and batteries to decide. 1 or two portables is easy enough, if more than 2 panel are need, I would mount them on top. Also, if I moved around alot, I would mount permanently. We like to go and stay a week. Happy Trails
