Staple(?) coming up in roof
I was washing the top of the trailer today and noticed something sticking up. Checked closer and it appear to be a staple, or something similar, sticking up under the roof membrane. Hasn't come through yet and doesn't appear weak, but I expect it is just a matter of time. So, opinions... should I just keep an eye on it, or go ahead and slit the roof to with remove the staple or try to get it back down, then cover with Eternabond tape? Really don't want to cut the roof, but I'd rather do that I think than wait until it breaks through and I get another leak.

Personally, I think I would try to buy some time by tapping it back down with a hammer, and keeping an eye on it. Don't fix what ain't broke.

And the bigger question is ...why do they use staples?? How do they hold into an alum roof truss? That is if they hit the truss?

X2, all units will have some staples that stick up slightly, either leave them alone or tap them back down with a soft rubber mallet. If there are many staples, then maybe a warranty issue and let the factory address the problem. Do the other repairs as a last resort.

CrossRoads paid the RV dealer to make the repairs on ours - caught during the 2nd annual inspection.
I would be contacting CrossRoads and then your RV dealer.

I have several along the edge. Talked to a repair shop and Crossroads. Both agree, let it be. They will probably never poke thru.

I was told the opposite - get it fixed before they come through. They were coming through on only one side of the trailer.
E-mail from the RV dealer:
We found these 3 nails/staples popping up-not thru the rubber yet. But if it does not get taken care of soon then it will be thru the roof.
I asked do you cut and repair:
Reply from the service rep:
Thank you, we don’t ever cut the roof we pull it up or pull it back. we did get the auth. to repair so we will start.

Yup. mine was very similar to that, but I was out of warranty. removing the front and rear caps to peel back the roof and hopefully not stretch the roof material or cause leaks was more costly and problematic than letting it be, and so far no issues. If it ever does come thru, a good knock with the hammer and some eternabond tape will fix it good.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I have had this trailer for over 2 years (1 year warranty) so no factory repairs. I may have a look tomorrow and gently tap it with a rubber mallet to see what happens. Other than that, I'll just keep a close watch. I keep eternabond tape in the camper. I only saw the one poking up.

Sound like a common sense fix.

I would think if you tap it with a hammer (even a rubber mallet) it may come thru the membrane. Eternabond tape should fix it if it does.

Put a towel or rag down, then tap a block of wood on it. May help push it down without risking damage to membrane. If you accidentally damage it, then I guess a piece of Eternabond is needed as Tim noted.
Off topic - Nice truck Tim!

I was searching for threads about this and came to this one. Our stapes did poke through and we had to patch it. Two of them broke through the rubber roof. I would not ignore this problem.
