Storing a grease gun
Ok, this is a rookie question but I'm looking for a way to carry a grease gun, etc without creating a mess in the basement of the 5er.
Any suggestions or experiences? I used to carry one in our old bumper pull but it occasionally left a mess to clean up so I'm trying to avoid that this time.
Thanks.

I'm not sure why you would want (unless you full-time?) but you can buy two gallon plastic storage bags and just replace the bag each time you use the gun if it gets messy. I grease my fittings before a long trip.

I keep mine wrapped in heavy rags placed in a small plastic storage container.

Kenny, that's sort of what I had in mind. Mine oozes a little so loose in the basement is a mess looking for a place to happen.
Stan, I'd not even carry it but this winter is our first long trip (3800+ mi) and the hitch needs greased every 1000 or so. Just one more thing to maintain.
Thanks and Merry Christmas

That lube plate should work good. We used a similiar item on the steering rudder tiller arm on our fleet push boats down at mile 57 LMR. Not sure if the dryer application will work any different than the wet application on the boats but we thought they were great! And cheap! I keep my grease guns in their own tool box.

I used the large zip bags, probably the two gallon size.

I use one of the lube plates on my hitch. I periodically lubricate the jaws, but not the plate.

Lloyd, unfortunately, I run a SuperGlide so the lube plate won't work. The TriGlide pinbox wants to be greased every 1000 miles or so. Not exactly the best design but it isn't hard to do if you have the right extensions, etc.
Good suggestion though. The whole idea of a automatic slider is kind of interesting. I've got to do a lube and clean of the ways before we pull out this winter.

I found keeping in the zip lock bag is half the battle. If it isn't upright, it still leaks all over the inside of the bag, especially with temp changes.
That, said there are do-dads you can hang it on to keep it upright. Not sure it will fit in the basement, but thought i'd mention.

Can you carry a jar or can of the grease and some tongue depressors? Just discard the stick when you are done.
