I am interested in member's experience with Super chip re-programing add-on. I am new to diesel and would like to know if the information from manufactures is true or just hype.

I had an Edge Juice on my last 03 Cummins diesel and it made a huge difference. Didn't see much mpg gain but the extra power when you are on the 2 lane roads and you want to get out and pass, this helps a lot.
I just bought a 2011 Ram with a Cummins and had the DPF and cat taken off and used a speedy programmer to help with fuel mileage. The guy that owned my truck before me said he did the samething to it and it improved his mileage about 4 mpg. So we will see. What kind of truck do you have?

Local diesel repair shop, Malone Diesel, is big on Superchip tuners, more air (like K&N) and a 4 inch exhaust. FWIW...I plan on upgrading my 2005 Ford F250.

Malone Diesel is a good shop. Ihaveused them before on my old 05 Dodge Diesel.

Only minimal (if at all) if you do it by increasing surface area without increasing micron size (micron being an arguable term).

Ok ! you have made a point but if you would have counted the pleats in the OEM paper mix filter and then count the AIR HOG, KN or what ever knock so called low restriction filter you would have less pleats which in my book means less area. To get more CFM with less area the pore size needs to be bigger. Being in the HD air filtration business for over 25 years I tested all the after marker filters out there. Yes they are lower restriction but they have a lower initial efficiency and don't hold as much dust as a OEM filter. I'm just saying! Race application yes,

Go K&N with your intake and as I do clean the filter regularly and no problem just good results.

I use to run the KN. Thought I was really doing my Duramax a favor and getting more HP to boot. Went thru all the crappy cleaning, drying, and re oiling. Then I got to see a demonstration on a dyno. The stock paper filter gave more HP then the KN. No more cleaning and oiling for me. What an eye opener that was.

There is no doubt that chipping your diesel will give you more power, but you have to think if it's really worth the extra expense. The Dmax, PSD, and Cummins have all the power that you'll need to pull any trailer on the market. The engineers at GM, Ford and Chrysler, have designed diesels that are an excellent compromise of power and economy. If you want to add a chip to a diesel, go ahead, but you'll , void the warranty, reduce the life of the engine and easily exceed the engineered parameters of the drive train.

I have to ask myself, if chipping is SO bad, why all the chip makers? Why all the forums talking about chips? There must be more than one guy chipping his diesel out there, why isn't there tons of websites telling about the destructive nature of chipping? I'm sure there's pros and cons to everything we do in life, why not just caveat emptor? Just my two cents, so chip or not chip.....
