Test Drive

We would like to do a fake run in our driveway before we take out our new TT. What would we use for the 30 amp service ? Or is that impossible to test out too ? I have read that some folks have problems with items where electricity is needed. Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance

You want to do whats called "camp driveway".
If you have a good outside receptacle/plug in. It would be nice or ideal to have a 30 amp plug, but not everybody has one. if you have at least a 15 or 20 amp plug in you should be able to plug the camper in and try it out.
Just remember, you won't be able to run everything at the same time. If you try to you will more then likely be popping house breakers.
Good luck, and enjoy.

If you have access to a generator with a 30 amp circuit you could do it.
But in all reality, you should be able to test all systems except the AC if plugged into a 15 amp household outlet. Just don't test everything at the same time!

Good luck and happy camping!

No less than 12 but preferably 10 gauge if you do.

We eventually had a 30 amp circuit installed in our home just for the camper. But prior to that we used the heavy cord that came with the camper and an adapter from Wally. And we were able to test everything in the camper. It would even carry the A/C if we did not have anything else on.
Enjoy your driveway camping, and your first trip even more.

I bought a 30 amp rv extension cord + 30 to 15 amp adapter and run it through the garage to my laundry outlet in the house. Works well for a temporary test and the extra extension cord is good to have. I use it when I run my toaster oven outside using the extra 110 plug on the post (using a 15 to 30 amp adapter).

Change of plans, no dry run yet. So much to learn, makes me nervous. At the same time excited. Thanks for asking, Fawn

We used to have a hot tub in the back yard. Once we started wintering in Florida, we no longer used the hot tub so we sold it. Since we had a power box out there for it, we had that concerted to a 30 amp RV plug. Since we live in the country and there are no restrictions as to what you park in your driveway, we often have friends camping in our driveway. We are able to provide them with 30 amp. service.

We camped in our driveway once for a week while having site-finished hardwood floors installed in the house.

Well don't be scared. Jump in there and try it out. You won't find any safer place to do your learning then right there at home in the driveway.
