Had a 50 degree temp drop this weekend so we from using the a/c to wanting to use the heat. However the furnace wouldn't light. Not sure why.. But here's what I experienced.

Connected to 30AMP service:

Moved the a/c , off, heat switch from off to heat. Heard a click at the a/c then the furnace blower ran, but no ignite. I cycled this a couple times with no luck in getting the furnance to blow heat. Told kids to put on a sweat shirt and go outside.

Pull the Dometic thermostat cover and checked all the connection all appeared secured.

Came home, tried again without 30 amp service, pulling off the battery.

No click at the A/C, but furnace lite right up blowing heat.

Plugged in to house power using 30amp to 110 / 20amp reducer, heard click at a/c but furnace fired right up.

Do you guys hear a click at the a/c? Any thoughts on why no ignite originally?

Sometimes it takes a while for the gas to get to it. Have you lit the stove frist? You may of had air in the lines.

Dito on the above. Also if the furnace has not run for awhile the flag switch can be stiff. This is the switch that says the fan is running. If it does not close or closes slowly at first the furnace can go into lock out so as not to put gas in the chamber that will not ignite. It's a saftey thing.
As for the click at the A/C, I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean the thermostat clicks? If so that is proper.

Appreciate the responses guys. I'm pretty sure I had a good supply as we had the oven going the morning before making cinnamon rolls.

This was the 1st time running the furnace since spring, so it could have been a stiff flag switch. I still may swap out the thermostat as the click heard at the a/c has me wondering if there isn't some bug in the Dometic stat.

You mean you haven't changed to the digital thermostat yet?????
Really a good mod to do, much more reliable, in my opinion.

There have been many posts on this conversion. Check the older posts using the search feature. You will need to install a mini-switch in the new stat for the speed control. Radio Shack and other similar stores will have them.

You will be very pleased with the new comfort level of your unit!

Hello friend

I have the same problem. Every fall i have to remove my furnace. On top of the furnace is a silver pipe for the propane to the burner. This pipe obtains rust thru the summer and stops up the jet. Remove the pipe and tap it and rust will come out, reinstall and things will be ok. I have been doing this for 4 years now... Dometic told me that that is something they cannot stop. depending where you live and humidity.

If you take it to a dealer tell them about this pipe. That is where I learned about mine.

After doing some digging I have found the link on the upgrade. I'll be heading out this afternoon to secure the parts. Hopefully I will practice on the neighbors 1st as he wants to do the same on his unit.

Thanks all !!!

Brent - Thanks for the insight on the pipe removal. I do this just to see an learn.

I didn't keep the CR post link, but I did keep the link that someone had posted on how to do the replacement.

http://home.roadrunner.com/~morodat/hunter_install.html

The thermostat mentioned in the post has been replaced by Hunter #42995. Which I purchased today for $19.94 at Walmart. I then headed over to Radio Shack to get the hi/ lo fan speed switch. Thought I could with a slide switch to make it look nicer, but once I got home I realized the cut-out to mount the slide would require a very steady hand and dremel tool.with some precise cutting Going back tomorrow to get a toogle type switch as mentioned in the article.

Anyone know how many amps are flowing through the added hi / low fan switch? I figure it be much on a small gauge wire.

Trying to decide on which SPST toggle switch to get.
