You guys that have run them or are running them, how stiff/harsh did it make the truck ride when you had them under load?

Lloyd, I had them on my old Dodge 3500 SRW and they improved the ride for us with the trailer hooked up. Empty they did not affect the ride at all because they do not touch the axle. Before I added the Timbrens the ride was muchrougher with the trailer in tow. I guess it would depend on the truck and load.

Lloyd,
I tried Timbrens and didn't like them. They are apparently great if your truck is empty or fully loaded. But with a partial load the ride characteristics were very erratic as the suspension transitioned from no contact to full contact of the Timbrens. So I switched to air bags for the rear and am happy with them. Downside is the extra task of having to adjust air pressure, but upside is having a consistent ride characteristic at any load and air pressure combo regardless of amount of suspension travel.

I've got air bags on the present TV. I was trying to save a couple bucks plus maybe have something with an easier install.

I wouldn't do timbrins if you carry light 200 to 300 lbs in the box. I have a friend who bought them and ended up with air bags like me.

Lloyd,
My air bags were just slightly higher than the Timbrens, but then I didn't get a fancy on-board compressor either. Installation time and effort was about the same also, same time under the truck getting the overloads in place, just extra time running the air lines which was ez.

Air bags for me - 5-8 lbs empty and 45-50 lbs loaded. Used them on my last 2 trucks too.
Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 air bags. No on-board compressor - I bring a pancake style with us - air bags, truck & trailer tires. I let the air out of the air bags when I un-hitch.</span>

I installed Timbrens on the back of my truck when I had a slide in camper. I found that the truck still sunk at the back enough to change the angle of the headlights, so I added the supplied spacers. No more sinking, but the ride is stiffer when empty, because the Timbrens are about 1/2 inch from the axle, and hit the axle with any bump or pothole. The ride with the trailer on is great, any bucking from bumps is stopped quickly. The truck doesn't drop more than the distance between the Timbrens and axle when I lift the landing gear. No more lighting up overhead road signs.</span>

I agree with Bob & Larry, this is the way we do it too. One day, maybe the on board compressor, an air horn, tank, air hose reel, etc, etc. LOL! The next purchase is TPMS!

YES you did! Maybe after the TPMS, the on board air compressor, the air horn, the tank, air hose reel, etc, etc. Oh that's right, I'm retired now, I gotta wait.............
It's all Dave's fault, that I have that "monster"! LOL! Edited by: FFFord

The Timbrens were the perfect solution for my Suburban. Ride is still smooth under load and is alot more solid, and not floaty, with the trailer attached.
I bought a set for my Silverado 2500HD for the new fifth wheel I ordered (not a Crossroads) as my pin weight should be near the max for this truck. HD trucks are pretty rough riders, so I don't know how anyone could claim the Timbrens would have a noticeable ride effect or make it worse.
