Time To Wax

With tomorrow being the first Saturday in a while that is going to be nice here in SC, I am planing on waxing my TT. I have ordered some Mothers Marine Synthetic Wax from Amazon and should be arriving today. Has anyone else used this product and what advice can you give me. Also, can I wax over the decals or do I need to keep the wax off of them. Of course I am planing on washing the unit before I start waxing. Thanks for any advice and recommendations.

Derrick

I usually do our's once a year. I use Mcguiars cleaner-wax as it seems to clean up the road grime residue pretty easily and leaves a nice finish.
I used to just use the old elbow grease method but this last time, used a buffer to help apply and clean. What a difference.
I'm fired up to get out their again just thinking about it.

Every season I clay-barred the front before waxing.....I'm a Clay Bar junkie. I can feel the difference after washing and waxing.

I have been hearing a lot about clay bars lately but have yet to see them. Where do get one?

I am curious, do you only wax the hard sided TT or also the aluminum sided ones?

I just wash the trailer top down and dry it with my leaf blower. I've yet to see a need to clay the sides or rear of the trailer but I did lightly clay the front cap last fall. I haven't seen a seen to wax the trailer yet either so I just use Opti-seal and then wash with ONR the rest of the year.

Mark - you sound like my friend Eric with his '72 Nova. He would eat the clay if you let him!

You see grass yet? Sunshine today has me itching to open up camper!

No experience with the clay process. Does it do anything to help restore a dark cap that shows signs of fading?

No, the clay bars were designed in the 80's by BMW to remove contamination from the paint caused by travel on open rail cars. The clay bar will pickup surface contamination not removed from washing. It's an extra step but a very worth while one when taking the time to polish a car or truck.

It can be used on painted fiberglass or gelcoat in the same manner. Gelcoat being harder doesn't hold onto contamination the way a soft painted surface does.

As with any other polishing product there are levels of strength from soft to strong. I would suggest sticking with a medium for the best overall results.

If your cap is fading, you could attempt to polish out the oxidation, start the process with clay, move on to a medium polish and then if you like the results add a wax for protection. With the issues the caps seem to have I would suggest adding a sealer on top of the wax for maximum protection.

If your looking for product, I recommend eShine Canada, Car, Wax, Polish, Polisher, Tire Dressings, Detailing Supplies, RV, Truck, Boat, Automotive, upholstery, marine, convertible, Microfiber I've purchased detailing equipment from them for over a decade and always been happy with the results.

you could try polishing all you want , but fade will always come back. It is just like a dark coloured boat, will always fade . Have to get it painted.

That's true but if you use a synthetic sealer it will help prevent the UV damage

I'm a big supporting of using synthetic instead of wax. IMO, wax will eventually whiten the decals.

This is the synthetic I use and recommend. Rejex: RejeX: Nothing Sticks but the Shine!
This company has a nice selection of rv maintenance products.
