I know this is an old thread but I'm thinking of getting an air compressor for travel. Has anyone tried the VIAIR brand. They make some that do 100-150 psi. Looks pretty good.

I ended up getting the Ryobi and am very happy with it. Use it for my truck, bike, inflatables, and trailer tires. Thanks the auto set PSI feature, I'll set it on the tires and check all while I am setting up the rest of the trailer or hooking up to travel. I also ended up getting the Ryobi fan, lamp, and impact wrench (for the scissor jacks) which have all come in very handy while camping-all are used every trip. Great system.
I have a pancake compressor at home, and have a 12v auto compressor-this is much better for this purpose for me.

The oilless pancake compressor from Harbor Freight

I have used mine and yes it may be a little slow however I allow it to fill the tank before opening for the hose. It then will fill 1 tire @ 80psi before repeating the process for #2 and so on. I am going to shorten the hose from 50' which will probably help substantially. Because of the size and options it has been a good choice for me.

Hubby has the Kobalt AC/DC inflator. He really likes it. You can use the 12V outlet in the truck or plug it into a regular outlet. You can get it at Lowes for around $50 U.S.

Viair is popular with offroaders due to some models having 100% duty cycle. They are an excellent but expensive product. I went with one of these: NPower Powerpack Emergency Power Source with Air Compressor — 500 Amps, 400 Watts | Jump Starters Powerpacks| Northern Tool + Equipment
Its proven to work really well each time i've needed it.

Thanks Burgy for the info. I would be using it to inflate my truck and rv tires while on road, as well as inflating air bag suspension. Not sure I need all the extras on the NPower Powerpack, but I'm sure they could come in handy. I've seen several VIAIRS and they have one called an 88p for about $59. Looks like good reviews. Seems like the biggest concern is overheating after ten minutes of use and then a cool down period needed. Ten minutes should be enough, but one could also wait for the cool down to continue. Thanks again for the replies everyone.

I use this Ryobi unit. Great for inflatables and works well on both my truck and trailer tires.
Granted, it's not commercial compressor by any means but it does the job pretty quickly.
It does work with plug in type batteries and having two batteries are ideal.
I have had others that just end up in the trash because they don't work well.
I like not having to plug it in to operate.
Well, now that I have my inflator with several 18v batteries, I decided to use those batteries a bit more.
I purchased my Christmas present early, using those same batteries, the Ryobi buffer.
Wow! Now I wonder why I used an old Monkey Wards, corded buffer for so long.
This thing works great and easy to use on the trailer, not to mention, my other vehicles.
If you have the inflators and don't have one of these, you should add it to your Christmas want list!
