I am considering installing the tire pressure monitoring system on my new kingston....Has anyone used one and what brand did you use? How good or bad did it perform?

I use one that consist of gauge that reads to 100# and check the 4 tires cold prior to every outing. Depending on the trip planned will depend on the pressure. If speeds will under 65mph, I run the tires at 65psi cold . If a longer trip and speeds will tip over 65mph, I'll run the tires at 75psi cold. Per Goodyear's site their Marathon tires can run at 75mph at 75 psi.

I use the Tire Pressure Pro system on my truck and 5th wheel. I check the pressures cold before departing (on my get ready to go check list) and the readings are very close. I have had just a handful of warnings that were maybe just loss of signal from the tires to the receiver over the past three years. They say the battery in the sensors are good for about 2 years but I only have them on while we are camping so just a few months out of the year. They are still going strong going on third year.

While driving the DW does check the pressures and in most cases are very close. Now on the sunny side it can be a little higher. Before someone chimes in yes check your tires cold as temp is the biggest factor with pressure. But the biggest cause of damage to the trailer is a tire that blows and you do not know about it until someone drives by and points it out. This way you know when ever the tire drops or rises 10% different from the start.

Bottom line I am happy with the system and gives me and my DW peace of mind while towing.

I am thinking of getting a TPMS myself and the one I think I settled on is the Hawkshead http://www.tpms.ca/index.html

The reason why is the batteries are replaceable in the Hawkshead sensors.

Alot, if not all of the others, the sensor has to be replaced. Thats alot of money every few years to be dishing out at around $50.00 per sensor.

I must say that looks like a nice system ... they have come a long way in just a few years.

We currently have the TST and love it.However the drawback is the batteries.the cost to replace sensors when the batteries die is about the same as replacing the whole system. We got ours on sale last year at Camping World after suffering through the damage of a blown tire,We would never be without it now.The great thing about it is when our current sensors need to be replaced there should be a lot of folks with good data on the Hawkshead unit. Thanks Brian for sharing this unit with us.If I were to buy today I think We would probably lean toward this Hawkshead TPMS .$450.00 would cover both your truck and 2 axle trailer.Unless you need a booster. This cost is the same as TST but would be permanent instead of an every 4 or 5 year expense. It seems to sense both temperature and pressure.Looks like a manufacturer is listening to what we the consumer want. What do you want to bet the others follow suit real fast.

Lloyd, I am going to get a TPMS system in the next couple of months and have been waiting for you to install the Hawkshead to see how you like it. Hurry up and give us your review so I know rather or not to get that one.

I have the TST system, well it is still in the box, next big trip is not till August. Decided to get it while on sale. $299 for six sensor system direct from TST, no tax and free shipping. Will install it in a few weeks but there are so many other things I need to get done, we have only been home 7 weeks so far this year.

I ordered and installed a HawksHead system and it appears to work as advertised. I have not put it to a road test yet. It programs easily but I decided to put sensors on my truck also and now I have to reprogram it all again. Not a big deal but it would have been nice to be able to add tires without reprogramming all over again. I do like the display, easy to read and self explanatory.

I seen too that now TST is offering the units with replaceable batteries so that gives us 2 options now for units with replaceable batteries.

I think I've read every post on every forum. Haven't been able to find any bad feed back for the HawksHead. I ordered it today. Don't know how long it will take to get here, but will post results after the install.
Boy, there's a lot of stuff out there to read.

I will be interested in your report on it. I am getting ready to put new tires on my truck in the next couple of months and may look at a TPMS for it and the trailer.

I just took my HawksHead's for a spin this weekend on my truck only. I got one funny reading on the front right tire which said "leak". I pulled the sensor off, cleaned the stem and reinstalled it. I "spit" on it and it didn't leak. I still got funny readings until the truck set for a while. When I drove it again everything was OK and it's still working fine. Not sure what it was but the bottom line is I really like the unit and the display is very intuitive and informative. I'm really glad it gave me the indication so now I know what to expect once my 5er is hooked up.

Installed the HawksHead TPMS. this morning. Pretty straight fore install. They seem to read a little higher on pressure then my digital gauge, but only about 1-11/2#. Walking out in front of the 5er I got way beyond the length of the truck and still had a signal. Anxious to see it work in real time going down the road.
