The difference is overall diameter. The 235/80/16 is 30.9 inches in diameter. The 235/85/16 is 31.7 inches in diameter.

A difference of 0.8 inches but only half of that, 0.4 inches, applies to above the tire. It is unlikely that 0.4 inches will cause a fit issue but you can check to make sure there is space enough above the existing tires for the larger size.

Don't over look the load carrying capacity! Ply rating doesn't count either, compare the exact weight capacities.

The tire you are asking about will be slightly narrower and slightly taller and possibly a lower weight capacity.

The other downside is that the tire will run slightly hotter under comparable load due to narrower contact patch....not enough that i would worry about it if i were in your position.

Why do you want to change size?

Goodyear say the load index on a 235/85/16 is 3640lbs.the load index on a 235/80/16 is 3420lbs.that 220 lbs better.

It’s a little bigger and better load rating.
