Tires for 2008 26ft RK

We just bought a 2008 26ft Crossroads Cruiser. We had a couple of things fixed but overall, it is in good shape.

The tires are original and I'm pretty sure we should replace all four before camping next Spring. What kind of tires should we look for? In three years, we plan to be camping full time.

We have the CF26RK, and I agree, if the tires on your rig are original, you should replace them. I replaced ours with Goodyear Marathons shortly after we got it..
We purchased a new TV which sat higher and the 5er was nose high a little, so I swapped them out for 16in. rims and went with Goodyear LT225/75R16E.

Wow! Your setup sounds just like ours! We just committed to a 16K Reese hitch too. Is yours a slider? Or do you have the 8 ft. bed? We are just about to "pull the trigger" on a 2014 Silverado half ton pickup. Are you happy with your half ton?

Our truck has a 6 1/2 ft box, and we do have the slider. Yes I'm very pleased with our f150.
Just a word of advise/caution---before you commit to that new Silverado half ton, make sure it will be capable to handle the 5er. Do your home work so you are not sorry afterwards.

Yes, we have been doing the homework. The one we are going to buy will tow 9,900# and have a 2,000# payload. The 2014's have larger brakes too. Did we miss anything? Any advice?

I don't think you have enough payload capacity.
By the time you put the hitch in--between 200 and 300 # -- Hubby and wife --any kids-- what ever else you will have in the back of the truck--full tank of gas--- you have eaten into that 2000# payload big time. Now you have to add about 1400---1500# pin weight.

Ok, that is about as much payload we can get out of a Silverado. What do you suggest?

If you're not stuck on a Chevy, look at the Ford EcoBoost with Heavy duty payload package and Max. trailer tow package. It will give you more of both then what you stated the Chevy has. Plus, it has 7 lug wheels with 10 ply tires.
Other then going to a 3/4 ton I don't know what else to tell you. I know our truck handles our 26RK just fine, and I'm not over loaded.

For my two cents the ecoboost system has been in the Lincoln for since 2009 and seams to be good a option. But I went with a F250 with a V10 and air bags.

In this day and age I would not rule out the Eco boost based on "new technology". This is the age of tech and the big 3 are cutting edge because they compete. If you are brand loyal that is fine. LeBo says since 09 that is going on 5 years so there is a track record.

Thanks for the update that would require a closer look and through homework. I guess we are drifting off target the thread asked about tires.

That suit pertains to early models with Eco Boost. Later models are not included. The Eco Boost will out tow most of the other stock 1/2 toners and provide much more torque. Have mine for 1 year and have not experienced any problems.

For my 2cents...nothing tows like a 3/4 ton diesel....ford or chevy...

If you are going to camp much and intend to pull in the hills/mountains any, do yourself a huge favor and buy yourself a 3/4 ton diesel. Even if you have to buy used instead of new, you will be glad you did. Can you tow your camper with a half ton? Probably. Can you tow it better and safer with a 3/4 ton? I've done it both ways, and in my opinion the 3/4 ton diesel is the way to go. Where you'll have your gasser wound up tighter than dick's hatband, a diesel is just easing along.

We are a little of topic, although the OP is the one who changed gears on it, so I guess that makes it okay.

As for tires, I've had several sets of Goodyear Marathons and have had zero problems with them, even the Chinese ones. I think the most important thing with trailer tires is that you keep them properly inflated. If they call for 80 psi cold, then they need to be inflated to 80 psi cold. Speed is also a factor. I try to hold my towing speed to 65 mph, sometimes hit 70-75 going downhill but not for long.

From all the checking I have done, I have to agree with Mark. I knew about that article before I even ordered ours.
I have yet to see anything come of it tho. It would be interesting to keep track of it.

As far as the OP needing a diesel to tow their 5er in the mountains, I totally disagree with that. We made a trip to CO. this last fall and our Eco Boost did just great on the passes, up and down. Our previous tv was a 3/4 ton Chevy Duramax so it was a good test.

Now, do I think the OP should buy a 1/2 ton, probably not. Reason being, the 5er they have is an 08 like ours and when they update they will more then likely want go bigger (which is the trend). So as long as they are looking at a new truck, might just as well consider a 3/4 ton.

I don't have any experience with the Eco Boost, so you may be right. I'm basing my opinion on comparing the two GM gasoline V8s I pulled with (a 98 Chevy 1500 4x4 5.7L V8 and a 07 GMC 4x4 5.3L V8) to my 08 Ford 6.4L Powerstroke. There is absolutely no comparison, the diesel pulls so much better. As long as I'm RVing, I'll have a diesel.
