Tongue jack
How long can one realistically expect an electric tongue jack to last? Went to hook up Wednesday for our first trip of the year and the jack was dead. Replaced the fuse but it could not raise the camper and really struggles when lowering it. It is a Lippert jack. We've only had the camper 2 years. Is there a better tongue jack to replace the Lippert? Thanks!

I'm wondering the same thing. We have a new trailer with an electric jack and it gets a workout lifting the truck and trailer to install the hitch bars.

Mine is still going strong after seven years, not a Lippert.

Opened up the top housing of the Lippert model 1817941 power jack and found it full of water. Used a compressor to get as much out as possible. Will hook the trailer to the truck and remove the top metal plate to see how much water got into the gear assembly. You would think an electric tongue jack would be better water resistant/proof as it is constantly exposed to the elements.
Will keep a cover or a bucket at least over the top of this one if I can get it working again, or on any new electric tongue jack. Lesson learned.....

When I did my beginning of season de-winterization, my jack didn't work. Started with battery charge (no issue). Took the top off the jack (no issue) but it was only a year old.
Decided to check the power line, apparently it was a connection issue. Just sitting over winter it either loosened or small film of corrosion occurred, either way, after an hour of tinkering, it needed 5 minutes of brushing and retighening.

I have a lightweight 2500 lb model from Stromberg Carlson. It's been working fine for 3 years. I read early on about water entering the jack, so I keep a cut-off 5 Qt Oil bottle on it. It fits tight, and can even ride on the highway without blowing off. As a result, whenever I take the oil bottle off, the jack head looks brand new. I have, once or twice, had to wiggle the in-line fuse to get it to work.

Tongue jack models
So Lippert said too bad, it's out of warranty. They would gladly sell me a new one for $199.95 and give me 20% off. I said no thanks, Camping World has the same one for 179 and Amazon for 150....
So, what brands do people have that have lasted or had minimal problems?

I traded in my trailer that I upgraded after I stupidly bent the jack not being careful. I went with the Barker 32454.
Unlike the Lippert garbage jack, ALL parts on the Barker are serviceable and as previously mentioned, their customer service great to deal with. Amazon has it for 245 bucks plus tax free shipping. Best RV part decision I ever made. I guess when the Lippert goes on my current trailer, I'll get another Barker.

Went a 2nd round with the Lippert customer service folks. This past weekend I removed the motor assembly and found the case bolts had significant corrosion. Cleaned the armature and brushes but still no luck in getting the motor to operate. Asked Lippert for a replacement motor, they don't have just the motor but will give 20% off our cost of $199.00. Lots of luck with that bargain Lippert! Will add Lippert to the list of poor customer service RV companies on my spare tire cover. This keeps up, I may have to add a 2nd spare tire......
