I have just purchased my 3rd set of tow mirrors - the kind that are secured to the vehicle mirrors with a couple of rubber (or vinyl?) straps. On each of my previous sets, the straps have first developed cracks and, then, broken apart after about a year. Doe anyone know of any treatment to help preserve the straps?
Not sure of a treatment but CIPA makes tow mirrors for almost all vehicles that does not use straps. I had them on my 2001 chevy. They use a screw to keep them tight. Work great for many years.

The CIPA mirrors are awesome. I got a set from Amazon for around 55 dollars. You pay 20 bucks apiece for the PIA strap on. The CIPA mirrors are specific by year, make, and model. Easier to adjust and don't vibrate.
I second the CIPA mirrors. They are maybe 10 bucks more than the strap on kind and look factory on my F150.
If the straps are rubber, 303 or any good protectant should get them to last a bit longer, but the UV from sunlight combined with the stress of bouncing back and forth on the truck is brutal on those straps.

If you can't find the cipa slide on mirrors to fit your tv then try the mckesh mirrors.I never used them but they get lots of good reviews on rv.net forums. The slide on cipa mirrors didn't fit my old armada so we used the same ones as you. Never had an issue but we only used that tv for 1 season before upgrading. What are you doing with the mirrors when not in use? We used to keep them in the pass through compartment out of the elements.Edited by: anaro
+1 on the CIPA. I've been using them on my 2000 Ram since new. No vibration to speak of.
The only issue I have is the right side could stick out a little further to clear the awning rail.
My last TV was a Jeep Cherokee. I used the McKesh mirrors on it. A bit pricey but very solid.
If you were close enough, I could make a deal on them. I don't use them anymore. They just take up space.
