Towing Mirrors for a 2002 GMC Sierra

Looking for advice on the best ad on mirrors for my GMC truck, I was hoping to find a good ad on mirror, something I can take on & off when I'm not using them.

Thanks

I use a set from CIPA. I bought them at Camping World but can be ordered on line from several sites. You slip them on your mirror then there is a "wedge" that you insert and a screw knob that you tighten to keep them on. They fit good and do not vibrate going down the road. There are "pads" on the mirror and wedge so it does not scratch your truck mirrors. I had a set on my 01 and have a set for my 08.

This is what I have but there are a lot of different styles so check them out and see what works for you.

Happy Fall Camping!!

When I upgraded the mirrors on my 02 HD I bought the 06 style towing mirrors. They are a simple replacement

I have a set of CIPA tow mirrors. They are like these https://www.campingworld.com/driver-...-gmc-2014-2018
only they came off my 2002 Suburban. The Suburban and Chevy/GMC trucks are the same. You can have them for free if you can pay shipping.

Here's a picture of the 02 with the newer towing mirrors. Check here for some prices but be sure you those you buy are compatible with your 02 wiring

I have the CIPA mirrors one one truck and the snap on ones on the other truck.

I prefer the CIPA with the wedge. There is a piece of plastic molding between my mirror and the add on mirror. This way, once I get the mirror set, it stays in place.
With the snap in kind, the extra mirror almost touches the side of my truck mirror. That is great, for a larger viewing area, but every time I put them in, the mirror will get knocked out of placement. Then I have to re-adjust them. Every time.

I have the '01 HD2500 Silverado with the towing mirrors that slide out. When you pull them out I have no trouble towing. Don't they extend on the '02 as well? I thought the Sierra and Silverado had basically the same mirrors.

It all depends how the truck was optioned. My 04 GMC had the power extend tow mirrors but my 08 has the regular power fold mirrors.

One thing about the older power out mirrors is the gears are plastic and do not have a great longevity. I originally bought those for my 02 and they lasted about 3 years. When I got tired of them not working correctly at times I bought the 06 style which has a larger mirror surface also

Phat Rat,

When you put the '06 mirrors on your 2002 GMC, was it a straight swap out or was there any modification needed. The links to the ones on e-bay all were 2003-2006 or 2007 mirrors. I've been using the CIPA add on models and think those 2006 units would be great if they fit my 02 Sierra 1500. Not sure if I have the wiring for the power heat or turn signals, but I presume that would be a simple mod if it's not present in the door frame already.

I bought the 06 style off E-Bay if I remember correctly. I had the heat and power already there and the mirrors came with the correct pigtail for the 02 wiring. So it was a simple install and plug in and done. Back when I did this in 06 there were even how to's on the net for which 06 wires to connect to 02 wires to make them work

Thanks...

I seem to recall when I changed out the door speakers there was extra wires terminating in unused connectors (presumed for options). Guess I need to pull the door panel and get out the digital meter and see what I have in there. Sure would be nice to have heated mirrors and turn markers added to my '02 Sierra 1500.

That did not take long. Looks like there is a Youtube video on exactly how to upgrade a 1999 to 2002 Sierra with the extendable towing mirrors with turn signals (and presumably a Silverado would be the same). Video shows how to manually wire the running light and turn lights if you don't have an existing connector (it's a 2 part video - link is to part 1).
