Getting readyto purchase a TPMS system for my 5th wheel and truck. For everyone out there that is using a system. If it works good let me know what you have, if you have to use a repeater with it. I will be using it with a 35' 5th wheel and crew cab long bed truck.

Thanks

You should get several varying opinions. I havehad aHawksHead system for over a year now and so far it does everything I want it to at a reasonable price. No repeater needed on our set up which is at least as long as yours. Edited by: Hunter11

I too have the Hawkshead system and like it. I have had one sensor fail but other than that it works as advertised. I like the fact that I can change the batteries on the sensors.

I have a TST and it works well, no problems. I don't need a repeater with my rig. It did come with an external antenna if needed. They now have a model with replaceable batteries. I replaced the valve stems with steel as recommended.

I have the HH system also. The antenna came out of my first monitor. The Co. replaced it. No cost. After I got the new monitor I had trouble getting things programed. After sending everything back and having it tested, (and they assured me it was working correctly) plus a few phone conversations, my system seems to be functioning the way it is suppose to.
As long as we are on this topic again----I have a question to add. You guys that state you changed to metal valve stems. Is the "entire" valve stem metal, or just the main portion sticking above the rim?
Mine are considered metal, but the part that goes "thru" the rim is rubber.

My tire guy calls them metal valves also---but they aren't all metal. Which he admitted. If I remember right, he said these rims need the rubber part that comes thru the rim to seal it. Couldn't use the stem that has the nut on the inside. Thinking back , the only all metal valve stems I have seen are those long ones used on the bigger truck tires.

I have the Hawkshead as well and like it. I don't need a repeater either and have had no problems. If I were to get another one, I would opt for the valve stems with dual air ports so that I can top off the tire without taking off the sensor. It seems like a nice option to me.

The stem on my valve is all steel and uses a separate rubber washer that seals at the rim.

I've used a Tire Systems Technology system for 3 years with good results. Had 3 sensors go bad, 1 replaced under warranty and 2 replaced free after warranty had expired. Good company to do business with. They now sell a system that allows you to replace the batteries in the sensors without having to send them back in.

Repeater not necessary with my truck and trailer. Discount tire sells a great metal stem for about $6 each.

With that said, I'm sure all of the TPMS being sold will work well.

I have had good results with the TST system, no repeater needed. Unfortunately all I have right now is the monitor, the sensors were on a shelf in my garage when it burned. Agree about full metal valve stems, get them at Discount Tire.
