Have been doing a lot of reading about the E Z Lube system as we have a trailer (Slingshot) that is equipped with this system, and am about to do my first-ever wheel maintenance.

It appears whether to hand pack grease or use the E Z Lube method sparks a lot of contention and each has its group of supporters. Having said that, I think I have been swayed by the hand packing method, which I intend on tackling. However...

One of the common themes against the E Z Lube method appears to be the potential for grease to leak out of the rear seal and contaminate the drum. Does this mean that the rear seal on an E Z Lube system is different from a regular assembly?? If so, and if I hand pack the bearings on an E Z Lube set-up, why would the seal still not allow grease to pass and still cause contamination? I presume the grease may leak from the pressure of the grease pump, but am wondering why the seal would not leak, regardless, if that is the weak point in an E Z Lube system.

Thanks,

Marv

With the easy lube system you use a grease gun to pressure grease through your bearings and against the seal. With hand packing you have no preasure against the seal.
